Taylor Lautner Closer To Losing ‘Twilight’ Role to Michael Copon

It seems its getting closer to being bad news for fans of Taylor Lautner (pictured right) as Jacob in the next ‘Twilight’ movie installment: ‘New Moon.’ Reports are surfacing again of Michael Copon (left photo) replacing the fan popular Lautner because the character of Jacob the werewolf matures and changes so fast in the sequel. New director Chris Weitz and the movie studio feel it would be too much time and money to use Lautner in the role when Copon already has the body and an ‘older’ look.
I would hate to see Lautner lose the role, but at the same time, the character physically changes so dramatically in ‘New Moon’ (not just when he’s the werewolf,) I think it might make more sense for Copon to be chosen. Lautner has said he is working on his body - working out and adding muscle - to show Weitz and the movie studio he can still be Jacob. I still like Lautner better, but I guess we will all know for sure in March, when filming begins.

Michael is a bad actor. Taylor deserve and CAN DO the role of Jacob better than anybody

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of Jacob, well actually I rather dislike Jacob. But, I like Taylor and he brings a lot of talent and overall character to Jacob. Team Taylor not Copon!

At first when I heard who would be playing the role of Jacob in the Twilight movie I was upset. I didn’t think that Taylor fit my idea of what the character should look like. But after seeing him in the movie I got use to him. Now I have to deal with a new Jacob just as I accepted him. I’d get all excited whenever I’d see him on the show My Own Worst Enemy shouting “there’s Jacob!” If Taylor loses the roll what will I shout at the TV? “There’s the guy who use to be Jacob”? I think it would be wrong to bring in a different actor at this stage in the game. I hope they make up their minds soon cause I am on pins and needles.

Copon, to me, doesn’t have the drive and passion to play the part. He once quoted in a interview that he has only read the first book of the series and simply cliffnoted the second and third. As a fan, I wouldn’t be able to handle that a main character seemed not to like the series enough to actually read the books. If he does get the role I hope he bothers to immerse himself more in the role. I don’t like Jacob, but I would rather have Lautner play.

If you actually have read the whole series, you would realize Taylor isn’t right physically. None of the arguments for Jacob are actually legit. They sound like they are coming from the stereotype Twilight fan, no offense. The film is about capturing the books visually, not just emotionally. He is supposed to be 6′7″, extremely large and built, and a good-looking native american. Michael is closer than Taylor to that description, but emotionally it doesn’t work. I don’t think either of them work. I think Michael will be good at Bella’s “new Jacob” because he is kind of cocky and disrespectful at times, but when he actually plays Bella’s “old Jacob” I won’t feel that sweet innocence that Taylor captured. If Taylor can become 6′7″, lose the baby face, and be HUGE by filming, then sure. Otherwise, cast a no-name with talent and the understanding of the two Jacobs we see through the rest of the series.
This guy is going to play Jacob through the next 3 books in the series. Let Taylor go. He is HUGELY famous now, he’ll find other roles.
If Copon can play sweet Jacob too, then I can see why they cast him. He has a pretty big fanbase after some of the crap movies and shows he has done. The only thing that bugs me is that he is only 6′1″ but, he can wear lifts and become 6′5″. Close enough. No one is going to be the perfect Jacob, at least, no one that is in Hollywood already.

Taylor Lautner totally deserves the role. And besides, he was in twilight, and people would think it was weird if he was suddenly a different person than in the first movie. So they better keep him, or their gonna have some angry fans comin’ after them.

I aggre with Rebecca. Physically, Copon is right for the job. It is very unlikely that Taylor will become the right height and build before the filming of New Moon.
It would not be bad for Michael Copon to play the role of Jacob Black because he and Taylor could be brothers. It wouldn’t matter if they replaced Lautner. Copon looks like an older Taylor, which is what goes along with the story.
Don’t get me wrong, I still very much like Taylor. If he somehow could grow in time for filming, that would be perfect. But let’s face it- the odds aren’t good. All the Taylor Lautner No.1 fans, get over it. The movies will probably be good with or without Taylor.

If he doesnt look right physically then why did they hire taylor in the first place!!!!! not all the characters match what it says in the book for example— alice is meant to be heeeps short but ashley greene is taller and no ones complaining about that!!
if taylor is willing to bulk up for the role i sayy give him a chance!! Also i must say TAYLOR IS WAYY HOTTER THAN MICHAEL!!!!!!

If they dont put taylor in ‘new moon’ the franchise is gunna loose heeeps of fans and money so i guess its their own loss…KEEEEP TAYLORRR

TAYLOR all the way! He brings Jacob to life and I really don’t think that any other actor can play the role like Taylor can. I don’t know if I would even go watch New Moon without Taylor playing Jacob.

I wish this whole drama was over already. I’m not a fan of Copon as Jacob Black, mainly because I don’t think he has the acting ability to portray the character in ‘New Moon’. If they were to pick someone to replace Lautner, I would rather they pick someone who could help carry the film, not just someone who happens to resemble Lautner a little bit.

Taylor needs to play jacob. I think an older man like copon won’t be sweet enough, and i think it would put alot of pressure on copon because taylor knows how to play the part. It would be upsetting to me to see one of my friends upset cuz he didn’t get the part after working as hard as he did to keep the part. Tay shud just keeps the part it suites him. Im all for Taylor.

If Taylor is replaced I will not be going to see New Moon. Twilight cost $37 million to make and they made $170 million off that movie. So they can use some of that money to do the special effects. Put the greed away.

I thought they hired the new director because of what he can do with special effects, i.e., Golden Compass. Taylor is Jacob. It’s the director’s duty to make Taylor transform into the new Jacob in New Moon. Additionally, I hope Chris realizes what a terrible actor Michael Copon is!
