Miley Cyrus Causing Controversy Insulting Asians
Hanging out with her friends and boyfriend Justin Gaston, Miley Cyrus and group pose for a picture while slanting their eyes. Needless to say, some people are upset. The OCA is issuing statements condemning Cyrus and gang for their poor taste in well, just about everything.
The OCA sent us [TMZ.com] this statement: “The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent…
Not suprisingly, the OCA is looking for an apology.
What I want to know is why can’t this kid stop getting her damn picture taken? When is it going to get drilled into her skull that she needs to live some of her life away from the cameras? How long will it take for her to realize that not everything in her life needs to be documented.
In my mind, it’s not just about this particular incident, (which in front of or behind a camera is not right but how serious depends on your outlook.) What’s really troubling is this girl seems to have no capacity or desire to live away from the camera. I don’t care if it’s a ‘friend’ who took this – she has to know by now that a picture of her will find it’s way onto the internet. Cyrus can’t be that dumb. Do her parents ground her like normal teenagers? Probably not. What will Disney do now? Her Hannah Montana movie is due out shortly and it could be a nightmare for promoters if this causes an uproar. I think it’s a little unhealthy that she seems to want to be in the spotlight all the time. It will not be good for her in the long run.

people should leave miley alone. she was just having fun in this picture. the stupid media is just trying to find something interesting to talk about. so she was slanting her eyes. i do that to to make my friends laugh. people are just plain stupid. celebrities cant have their privacy without media talking about it. just lay off.

in the picture there is an asian in it. he didnt get insulted so why should other asians get insulted. thats just dumb. to me people are jealous of celebs.

Hey there.
I’m not a Miley fan (God forbid) and I kind of agree when you say she seems to have “no desire to live away from the camera”- because she definately wants to appear everywhere. But this? This is plain stupid. This looks like the kind of photo I would take with my friends, not making fun of asians but making a funny face. How does Miley Cyrus slanting her eyes become an offense for asians? How is Miley Cyrus such a big figure to be able to offend a whole community by taking a picture with friends?
Seriously. Those people need to find something real to do intead of being so picky. This country’s problems go FAR behond Miley Cyrus.

i think that they need to calm down. i can see how it may be affensive but, everyone does silly stuff like this. just because she is a celebrity it turns out to be the huge deal. people need to breathe.

it is offensive to asians if someone painted their face black n stuff they’d be dammed so why is it not a big deal with azns? to mira why should people say like chinise eyes or something?? cuz they’re are aszn people with narrow eyes everywhere in asia n all tht 1 native americans had it 2 south africans 3 asians but kno one can have have eyes like tht may be narrow or round or big n slanty kind of or the opposite n double or single eyelid asians are asian we look like asians because we don’t have hollow brow ridges not because of the eyes as such but brow ridges.

We’ll never know why she actually slanted her eyes. Yeah, it would be totally offensive if they were joking about how narrow some Asians eyes are and promoting the stereotype. She’s kind of a “mean girl”. But guys maybe she was just making a funny face. We don’t know. The media should just ask her….though she would probably just lie. you never know with celebs.

Bottom line is that she made a stupid mistake. I don’t think that she is racist, but only ignorant of the history of discrimination against Asian or any other ethnicity in this country. There is no question from the picture that she and her friends are making fun of Asian eyes. People who try to make excuses for her or tolerate her behavior should spend some time studying their history book instead of watching useless MTV or Disney channel. The Nazis were able to take control and caused inhumane atrocity to the Jews because people did not think there was anything wrong. It is this insensitivity that breads this type of tolerant behavior and mind set. I’m sure she will learn her lesson and people who don’t think there’s nothing wrong should also learn from her mistake instead of trivializing this behavior. The sad thing is that she will learn the mistake not because she realized it was wrong, but because she and Disney’s pocket book will be hurt by sales of movies, music, and her products in overseas.

I’m Asian and I don’t feel offended at all by this photo. I used to live in Hong Kong too and me and my friends would sometimes laugh at this type of stuff too. I mean come on obviously they weren’t thinking of offending asians or have a racist attitude when they did that! There’s a difference between doing that with a racist attitude and a lighthearted joking attitude. For god’s sake there’s an ASIAN sitting there! he’s obviously not offended. It’s SO obvious that it’s just a bunch of people having a good time.
THe media will do anything to find something to say. and people just believe whatever the media says.

Lol I hate Miley Cyrus but 4billion dollars is not alittle to much considering stars don’t get paid that much. They should really sue disney channel because it can handle the law suit and most of the charecters are racist out doors anyway. If Miley does it all her fans will stop watching her thats already a big enough damage and if they copy her god forbid, she then deserves it ;P
