Sisters Alyson and Amanda Michalka (better known as Aly & AJ) went shopping Sunday afternoon in Hollywood California. Aly’s movie with Vanessa Hudgens and Gaelen Connell, Bandslam opened this weekend and did very poorly at the box office (even with the exclusive New Moon trailer in front of it.) AJ will be in the upcoming Peter Jackson film The Lovely Bones and the duo has renamed their band 78violet and are working on new material for a new album.

The movie Beastly, starring Vanessa Hudgens, Mary Kate Olsen and Alex Pettyfer has been filming since June in Montreal and a few new images are being released. The film is based on the book of the same name by Alex Flinn and is an updated adaptation of the classic Beauty and The Beast cautionary tale. Pettyfer has the role of Kyle, the self-centered guy who is turned into the beast and Hudgens plays Lindy – the beautiful girl who can change him back with her unconditional love. Some of the images are not new although I’m not sure which ones except that shirtless Alex is apparently brand new.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint gave the starting flag a wave for the race car drivers at RAF Marham and the Richard Burns Memorial Rally in Norfolk England. He was there with his family to support one of the drivers in particular, his younger brother James, as well as be the official starter for the rally.

On his brother’s turn at the wheel: “It’s quite a new thing for him. He is just getting started, but he has got a natural ability. I wouldn’t have a go. The cars go really fast so it’s not something I am brave enough to do. I trust his ability though. So far he hasn’t had any accidents.”

Sounds like a nice weekend for Rupert and his family.

Director Brett Ratner is attached to direct/produce a movie based on the comic Youngblood and has said he thinks Robert Pattinson would be great for the character Shaft.

“Definitely Robert Pattinson from ‘Twilight,’” He just feels like he belongs in that world. I don’t only see him as a vampire, he’s a really good actor.”

“Pattinson could do anything. He just has that look,” states Ratner. “I picture him on Youngblood, for sure.”

Youngblood is a group of superheroes sorta X-Men lite. Shaft is an ex-FBI man who is an archer. Sounds dull, lame, bad and everything else when Ratner is attached. Ratner had glowing things to say about Pattinson but let’s be honest, Rob is the hottest actor right now and every director or producer who wants a built in audience will court him for their film.

The CW network is putting forth it’s vampire show, Vampire Diaries this fall with mega hot actor Ian Somerhalder cast as bad boy/vampire Damon (go here to learn more about the character Damon from the books.) In the video from MTV.com Somerhalder explains that the show will be ‘edgier’ than Twilight simply because it’s a weekly show and that while he thinks the comparisons are good, the end result will be different.

By the way – Somerhalder was on ABC’s highly popular show LOST a couple of years back but his character, Boone, was killed off. At the San Diego Comic Con this year he confirmed he will be back when LOST does an apparent ‘reboot’ in time.

I don’t care where I get to see those blue blue eyes – I just adore him and he gives Robert Pattinson a run for his money in the sexy vampire department.

Here is Eclipse hottie Xavier Samuel out for a coffee and a stop at an art gallery while in Vancouver this weekend. The Aussie actor who won the part of newly turned vampire Riley graciously signed a book and posed for a few pictures with fans who have invaded the city once again hoping to catch glimpses of their favorite Twilight Saga stars.

American Idol season six winner and ‘Battlefield’ singer Jordin Sparks has been announced as the opening act for the 2nd half of Britney Spears North American Circus Tour.

“Britney’s show is incredible and for me to be a part of it is a great opportunity,” Sparks said in a statement.

‘Love, Sex and Magic’ singer Ciara had toured with Spears in the UK and was thought to be the opening act for the rest of the US dates, but she is no longer mentioned. Kristina DeBarge will also appear on all dates as well as Girlicious for some special shows.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens confirmed she and her former High School Musical co-star, Zac Efron, are officially engaged to be married but don’t expect them to set a date any time soon because they are so busy with their careers.

“We haven’t set a date and if we did we’d keep it secret for as long as possible,” Vanessa says. “Why? What if one of us was offered a major film part? Then we’d have to postpone our marriage and people would say we’d split up. And we don’t want that.”

The bride to be adds: “Zac likes me in bright red lipstick. I am his one true vamp!”

These two must really love each other. They have been dating forever and their relationship survived two nude photos scandal… yep, they are solid!

Actor Robert Pattinson is followed everywhere by a legion of devoted crazy fans but social networks like Twitter have literally turned his life into hell. And no, Robert does NOT have a Twitter account!

Robert said, “Because of internet stuff and Twitter, there will be a crowd if you are in a place for more than half an hour…I’ve learned never to stay in the same place for more than 20 minutes.”

“The biggest challenge is coping with the crowds,” he added. “I am a quiet, private person. It’s strange. You have to change a little bit. Walking down the street comes with screaming.”

That is the price of fame for Robert. He is a big part of something that has become a larger than life phenomenon: one day he was nobody, the next day he is Edward Cullen of the Twilight Saga.
