While the Jonas Brothers as a group are taking a bit of a break, Nick Jonas and the Administration are gearing up to start touring and promoting the side project. The youngest of the three band members, Jonas says the response for his solo album has been “so positive.” Nick is getting ready for his concert in Nashville, TN at the Ryman on Monday January 4th and had this to say about the legendary city of music and his brother’s support:

What made you choose Nashville as the setting to record your solo album?
“All of us in the band wanted to step outside of our comfort zone, to go to a place where we hadn’t spent too much time before, where we could get away from our element. We wanted to focus on this record.”
What led to the decision to make a new project? Had these songs been kicking around for years, or did you write them with a new project in mind?
“The writing for this record really started in October of last year. I was writing songs that, stylistically, weren’t necessarily like the Jonas Brothers sound, and I didn’t know what to do with them. I met with my brothers and talked to them about this idea that I had to do a side project, to go to Nashville with these guys and record (an album). I wanted to make sure that they were OK with it first before I made any move on it. They said, ‘We’re excited for you. We know that you have a lot that you’re passionate about, and we’re here to support you.’ So that worked out nicely.”

Nick Jonas and the Administration album comes out February 2. 2010 and the band will be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on January 8th.

The end of 2009 is here today so let’s take a look back at the best TV shows aimed at and about teenagers. Some are more realistic than others and some are just downright guilty pleasures, but here are the Top 10 of 2009.

10. Gossip Girl - CW

Based on the books by Cecily von Ziegesar, the series about spoiled NYC teens on the Upper East Side was launched in 2007 and has been a favorite ever since. While ratings have slipped this year, it is still talked about. The cast (Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley) is super hot and garners lots of press. Hopefully the storylines will pick up and get it back on track.

9. Make It Or Break It – ABC Family

Chelsea Hobbs, Josie Loren, Ayla Kell and Cassie Scerbo are the gymnastic Olympic hopefuls at “The Rock” in Boulder Colorado, training for their shot at the big time. ABC Family’s hit show (scoring their second best premiere) gives athletic teen girls a chance to see and strive for something more than boys and clothes.

8. True Jackson, VP - Nickelodeon

Keke Palmer is terrific as the Vice President of a teen clothing line and her navigation in the world of business and all the normal drama that comes from being a teenager. Palmer is funny, charming and talented. Her costars Ashley Argota and Matt Shively play off her well and the premiere set lots of ratings records for the network.

The Gossip Girls are getting the February covers – first Jessica Szohr on Teen Vogue and now Taylor Momsen on Seventeen. Here is an excerpt from Momsen’s interview:

On teenage angst: “I am angsty. I’ll be angsty until I’m 80 years old. I think that keeps things fresh. But I always think angst is such a derogatory word toward teenagers. It just means you’re figuring s*** out, and I don’t know why that’s a negative thing.”

On people taking her seriously: “I think people don’t really take me seriously because I’m 16. And they think most 16-year-olds don’t know what they want to do. But I actually really do, because I’ve been thinking about it since I was 2. And in the world of acting, you have such a stigma put onto you that you [get into this business] for the fame. Fame frankly means nothing. It’s so stupid. Unless you do something great and unless you do something that’s fulfilling to you, what’s the point?”

Taylor comes across as driven and focused. She seems very smart about fame and it’s trappings. Hopefully, she keeps that attitude as she moves ahead in the business.

Vanessa Hudgens celebrated her 21st birthday on December 14th while she was in Vancouver filming Sucker Punch. Her longtime boyfriend, Zac Efron, got her a very green and eco-friendly gift: three fruit trees for her backyard. The citrus trio, a lemon, orange and tangerine tree, were planted for her as a surprise when she returned to Los Angeles. Romantic, thoughtful, unique and long lasting – great gift!

Jackson Rathbone and his band 100 Monkeys will be part of a tribute concert for their fellow musician, Spencer Bell, who lost his life in 2006 to adrenal cancer. As part of the Spencer Bell Legacy Project, the concert will raise awareness and money for the cause.

Along with 100 Monkeys is Tin Tin Can, Ervo, The Kissing Club, Drew and the Medicinal Plan and The Stevedores will perform April 24, 2010 in Dallas Texas. Tickets go on sale January 15th for the springtime event.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber will be performing on ABC’s Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. The duo will be in Las Vegas with a ton of other music superstars including The Black Eyed Peas, Colbie Caillat, and Orianthe. Gomez and her band The Scene and Bieber are rehearsing in this video. The show airs at 10pm EST.

Harry Potter costars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are having a laugh over Rupert’s late reading of the HP books. This mini interview was filmed on the forest set of The Deathly Hallows and is included (and many more extras) when purchasing the Ultimate Edition DVD/Blu-ray of The Chamber of Secrets.

Watson is back in the UK after her first term here in the States as a freshman at Brown University in Rhode Island.

MTV’s behind-the-scenes show Styl’d ends it season on January 2nd at 10pm with Ashley Tisdale as guest. Sequins and leather and drama… Oh My!

Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr is beautiful in BCBG blue for the February cover of Teen Vogue magazine. The actress gives us details about her personal style, how she landed her role on GG and her boyfriend Ed Westwick.

On becoming more than just friends with co-star, Ed Westwick: “It kind of just happened. We had fun together, and we were like, ‘All right, let’s see where this goes.’”

On how she landed her role on Gossip Girl: “Two of my friends in L.A. invited me to this Labor Day barbecue, but I really just wanted to stay on the couch with my French bulldog,” she says. They kept calling, though, so off she went. “I remember hanging out by the pool in an old T-shirt and jean shorts, just talking to people. Three days later, my manager calls to tell me that I’d been with the show’s executive producer and one of the creators and they want me to audition.” Less than a week after that, Jessica was on her way to New York. “Nuts,” she says.

The cover shoot was done by famed fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier and the issue hits stands January 5th. Szohr will also costar in the April 2010 movie Piranha 3-D.
