Did she say it’s because she feels threatened ’cause her li’l sis, Elizabeth Olsen, is like, the greatest thing to hit the Hollywood scene since Botox became mainstream?

Oh wait, sorry – was that rude?

In an interview with ELLE U.K., the actress-turned-fashionista opened up about why she decided to take a break from being in front of the camera for A New York Minute.  C’mon, you all know you saw that movie!

We worked non-stop until we were 18. Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment… It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress.

She’s not kidding about working non-stop.  Those twins were freaking ev-er-y-where in the 90′s!

While we respect Ash’s decision to step away from the spotlight, we can’t say we aren’t secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for a 20th anniversary reunion of the entire cast of To Grandmother’s House We Go…

Twinsies Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were named “Best Dressed Siblings” in Vogue’s annual Bessed Dressed Issue.

Really?  Because I sort of alway think they look like two conjoined bag ladies wearing far too many sequins.

The ‘zine, which will hit newsstands November 15th, breaks down Hollywood’s fashion elite and let’s us normies know just who and what to copy when we’re shopping out of the margin bins at TJ MAXX.  What I’m saying here is that it’s a must read before you do your Winter shopping.

Other celebrity siblings gracing Vogue’s Top 10 were Dakota and Elle Fanning, Beyonce and Solange Knowles and Kate and Rooney Mara.

Personally, I would’ve gone with Willow and Jaden Smith, but that’s just me.

Newsweek magazine profiles Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and their burgeoning fashion empire in this week’s issue.

While the two sisters are often dismissed as “pint sized,”  the business they have built is anything but. Working to keep their celebrity status low key, they’ve dug in to the fashion world and are earning respect.

The 24 year-olds are passionate about New York’s once flourishing garment district that has now virtually gone away. The Olsen’s say they want to really be representative of the American design and manufacturing that once was.

“I really believe in our being able to create here and utilize the skills that people have here,” says Ashley. “The skill set is here. Our main issue is that some of the machinery is gone, so some knitwear is produced in Italy. But whether it’s clothing or cars, I believe in manufacturing as close to home as possible.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate have gotten a huge boost when First Lady Michelle Obama wore a skirt from The Row when she appeared on The View last week. They’ve had to work hard for the recognition and that certainly helps.

The Olsen twins are self-proclaimed fashionistas, but they look like little girls who just raided their grandma’s closet at the premiere of “Rossini’s Le Comte Ory” at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on Thursday (March 24)- more pictures below.

These girls are only 24 years old, but they are like old souls in teeny cute packages. They are beautiful whenever they are not creeping us out with those smokey eyes. Geez. And the look on their faces is scary too…

Fashionista Ashley Olsen covers the latest issue of Canada’s Fashion Magazine (September 2010). The Olsen twins have their own fashion label called Elizabeth & James: Ashley is the business women, while her twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen is the creative strength of their successful formula.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been quietly building their high-end clothing line The Row, for a few years now. The designs are versatile, fashionable and well-made and have been successful from the initial release in 2007. Growing their line, the sisters announced earlier this month that they would have their first runway fashion show for the Fall 2010 line at New York’s Fashion Week in February and now they are launching the website for their brand. Therow.com is understated and subtle with a tactile ‘feel’ using fabric samples as the background.

What does the look and the feel of the Web site say about the collection?
Mary-Kate Olsen: We looked at a lot of different Web sites before we started working on our own, and we thought most of them were too loud. We wanted The Row Web site to be subdued and very direct. I think that has been a philosophy behind The Row ever since we started the line. All of the background visuals are high-res images of actual fabric swatches from our collections. We wanted the viewer to really see all of the details of the beautiful fabrics we use—washed red silk charmeuse, the scales of our python skins, our cashmere modals. We wanted it to feel like you could reach out and touch everything.

The unique personal style that Mary-Kate and Ashley have cultivated can overshadow the fact that they are talented and passionate about their clothing lines and they have built a great business. I’m looking forward to their fashion show in NYC next month to see what they have planned for The Row.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen are launching a teen line of clothing for JCPenney department stores called Olsenboye. The sisters will have the line in stores nationwide in February of 2010, but currently a preview is available in New York City stores.

“It’s really lighthearted, fun and stylish,” says Ashley.

“You have your basics and your trend pieces, and each season is based on a different city. It’s fun. And it’s good fashion.”

The fashion line is named after their ancestral Norwegian name and filled with inexpensive basics like leggings, flannel shirts, minidresses and t-shirts.

On her and Mary-Kate’s name: “Mary-Kate and I never really wanted our names on a bunch of different things. It wasn’t us — it never felt like us.”

On driving and the paparazzi: “I love driving. But sometimes I’m not too good with it because I spend too much time looking in the rearview mirror if I know I’m being followed. You don’t respond like, ‘Oh, there’s paparazzi.’ It’s more like, ‘There’s a man, and he’s gonna attack me.’ That’s how your body responds.”

On being born with a sense of style: “I think you’re either born with a sense of style or you’re not. Either you care or you don’t. And we”—she and Mary-Kate—”love fashion. When we were going to NYU, I think that was the first time we were aware of the power of our personal style. Not the power of it, but the result of it. Between the big sunglasses and the Starbucks cup and the big sweaters, the hobo-chic thing, we were more shocked than anything.”
