Bandslam’s Aly Michalka is joining the brand new show Hellcats that will air this fall on the CW. The 78violet singer is joining Gail O’Grady (Desperate Housewives, NYPD Blue) in the drama.

A drama set in the world of competitive college cheerleading. The former [Michalka] will play Marty Berger (“wicked smart, an acerbic outsider”), a student at Memphis’ Lancer University who’s forced to try out for the Hellcats – the college’s competitive cheerleading team – after she loses her scholarship. O’Grady will play her mother Wanda who tends bar at a rathskeller type snack bar on campus that serves food and drinks.

Aly’s also part of the 2011 movie ensemble cast for The Roommate, staring Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet and Katerina Graham.

An upcoming beauty pageant in Mystic Falls will have at least one new cast member added to The Vampire Diaries. Spencer Locke, the 18 year old most recently seen on TV in Cougar Town and her big screen role in Resident Evil: Afterlife, joins the bloody mayhem as Amber for at least one episode in April.

Turns out Amber is a beauty pageant contestant who will compete in late April episode against Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) to be the next Miss Mystic Falls. This sounds like a fun follow-up to the bachelor auction Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) will take part in when the show returns with a new episode (”A Few Good Men”) on March 25.

Malese Jow, who plays vampire Anna, tweeted this photo of her and Locke in Atlanta. Will Locke’s Amber be human or vampire? Guess we will have to wait until April to find out…

Liam Hemsworth is in negotiations to star in the 3D epic Arabian Nights according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“[...]the period epic centers on a young commander (Hemsworth) who, after his king is murdered in a coup, joins forces with Sinbad and Aladdin to rescue Queen Scheherazade.”

Shooting could begin as early as the end of the summer.

For now, catch Hemsworth with his The Last Song costar and girlfriend, Miley Cyrus on the Teen Vogue April behind the scenes video of their photo shoot.

Script and cast changes are very common in Hollywood. The latest film to undergo this kind of transformation: Monte Carlo, now starring Selena Gomez and perhaps Leighton Meester (she is rumored to be in negotiations for a part.) The movie was originally cast with Nicole Kidman and looking to add Julia Roberts to the mix however it’s been given a youth-do.

It’s clear the massive success of Twilight and other films featuring Hollywood’s youngest stars has seriously influenced Fox 2000.

The movie is based on the book Headhunters by Jules Bass and is about a group of teachers who pose as wealthy and sophisticated travelers in Monaco. Kidman will remain with the project and step behind the scenes to produce rather than star.

So let’s say everything works out and Sel and Leighton begin filming in May - who is you’re pick for the third travelling BFF?

The search for the next Peter Parker is over. According to The Cineman Source, Logan Lerman has been tapped to play the awkward teen bitten by a radioactive spider who develops superpowers and becomes the crime fighting Spider-man.

The role was widely sought after and lots of stars had been rumored to take on the action franchise, including Kellan Lutz, Chace Crawford, Daniel Radcliffe and Zac Efron. The director of (500) Days of Summer, Marc Webb is planning on this film being 3-D with the technology from James Cameron’s film Avatar.

Amanda Bynes joins the all-star cast of the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby) latest comedy Hall Pass. The Dumb and Dumber filmmakers have cast Bynes along with Alyssa Milano, Christina Applegate, Jenna Fischer, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis. The film’s premise:

[...] addresses wanderlust head on with the premise of two married woman giving their husbands a “hall pass” to have extramarital affairs without repercussions, only to go out and play the field themselves.

The movie is scheduled to begin shooting in Atlanta shortly.

Leighton Meester will once again be on Hugh Laurie’s radar. The Gossip Girl star was a guest for two episodes on Laurie’s hit show House, M.D. back in 2006. Now the duo will make big screen magic as lovers for the indie film The Oranges.

The story about a man who falls for the daughter of a family friend and begins a relationship that turns everyone’s world topsy turvy, looks to start shooting in New York City in April. The pair had great chemistry the first time around, let’s hope they capture that spark again.

Taylor Lautner is potentially the hottest young actor to come out of The Twilight Saga franchise. As much as everyone now talks about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart when it comes to movie projects, Lautner is securing one heck of a commercial future for himself. With starring roles in Cancun, the Max Steel and Stretch Armstrong action hero adaptations, and Northern Lights, (not costarring Tom Cruise however) the actor who just turned 18 is attached to star in Abduction (a Jason Bourne identity in question kind of role) and that pic is up for a bidding war between at least two studios. The big question remains, Lautner is unproven beyond Twilight for bringing an audience to the theater. Will these movies even get made? Is this all just hype for the actor?

As both the Twilight and Harry Potter movie series wrap up in the next couple of years, the actors are working on their longevity in the business, signing on to new roles. Ashley Greene is costarring with Sebastian Stan in Apparition and now Draco Malfoy thespian Tom Felton joins the cast of the supernatural thriller.

“As far as my character goes, obviously he’s not an evil, jealous wizard,” Tom said with a laugh. “He’s a college student, a very intelligent, confident young man who’s really excited about what he’s getting himself into. At the same time, he has no idea what he’s getting himself into. This character has such a wide range in one movie. He starts off as a real go-getter, and as the story goes on, you really see him turn.”

Felton also mentions one big physical change from what we are used to: no blonde hair.

This movie sounds like it has great potential and I’m looking forward to seeing the Twilight and Harry Potter actors in other roles.

The Taylor Lautner movie machine keeps rolling. Hasbro, owners of successful toys-turned-live-action flicks like Transformers and G.I. Joe, are teaming up with Universal Studios to get Stretch Armstrong on the big screen and make some dough.

“In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office,” Universal Pictures co-chairman Donna Langley said.

“He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power. We couldn’t be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch.”

Aiming for a summer 2012 release date, this movie could get crowded with other Lautner pics: Northern Lights, Cancun and Max Steel.  Are you ready for Taylor’s turn at super stardom with all these action flicks?

Robert Pattinson is filling his 2010 film schedule pretty tightly. The actor has signed on for Bel Ami and Unbound Captives and could soon add Water From Elephants to his list. In negotiations for the Depression era circus tale, he could rejoin his Vanity Fair costar Reese Witherspoon (confirmed) and possibly Sean Penn who is still mulling the offer.

Based on Sara Gruen’s best-selling historical tome of the same name, story centers on a Cornell U. veterinary student who leaves his studies after his parents are killed and joins up with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, working as a vet for the circus. Witherspoon will play Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August (Penn), the charismatic but twisted animal trainer.

Still no word on Breaking Dawn, the final film (or two) in The Twilight Saga franchise, Pattinson is wise to ink everything he can.

Aimee Teegarden signed on for a surfing flick, Beautiful Waves, this past summer and now AnnaSophia Robb is beginning production on her new film, Soul Surfer. Robb’s movie is based on the real life experiences of Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm after being attacked in the water by a shark and went on to become a pro surfer.

“She’s super cool. A great girl,” Hamilton said of Robb. “We’ve met in Hawaii and hung out.” For post-attack scenes in which a one-armed stunt woman was needed, Hamilton stepped up. “They wanted a one-armed person doing it and that’s not easy to find,” Hamilton said.

Another surf movie is fine with me. I loved Robb (and Josh Hutcherson) in Bridge to Terabithia. and I can’t wait to see her in this.
