Nashville-based recording artist Kat Thomas’s sultry smooth voice may very well be the best thing to happen to pop music since, well since Adele sang her way into our hearts back in 2008.

Yeah, we went there.

The stunning redhead first caught our eye (and ears) several years back while she was a part of the singer-songwriter duo Trudy Chase.  The group parted due to creative differences, but Kat took the split as an opportunity to perfect her unique sound and put together a freakin’ un-be-lievable solo project.

The 26-year-old vocal powerhouse took a break from her crazy schedule to sit down for an exclusive interview with GossipTeen and tell us  a little bit more about herself and her new EP, ‘Runaway Train‘.

GossipTeen:What was your inspiration to write this EP?

Kat Thomas: This EP came out of a realization of how quickly time flies.  After I got married, it seemed like everything started to speed up.  I had a moment when I was in my grandmother’s basement, sitting at her piano, thinking about how my mother played in this basement as a child, 40 or so years ago, and thats when I started writing the title track, ‘Runaway Train’.

GT: What was your most memorable moment while recording this album?

KT: Having contractions in the studio!  haha I recorded most of this while I was pregnant so it was all an adventure.

GT: What 5 items do you never leave home without?

KT: Oh, just the basics: purse, phone, keys, child, clothes on…

GT: What’s your guilty pleasure song?

KT: What I am listening to at this very moment.. Mariah Carey Christmas. All of them.

GT: Who is your celebrity crush, musically speaking?

KT: Lauryn Hill.  All the way.  I loved her Miseducation album growing up and just recently had a big moment with her MTV Unplugged album.  She’s so legit.

GT: Who is your dream duet partner?

KT: Stevie Wonder. That’d be a dream.

GT:What’s one thing you want all your fans to know about you?

KT: That I truly hope that my music speaks to them.  And if so, I’d love to hear about it!
