Chad Ochocinco Grounds Daughter via Twitter

Written by Kelly Bandas on January 6, 2012 – 1:40 pm -

Being a teenager in the 21st century just got a whole lost weirder.

New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and his 3,095,000 followers were in a tizzy last night when the former Cincinatti Bengal announced that his daughter Jicyra Johnson (who has over 10,000 followers herself) was suspended from school for sassing a teacher.

@ochocinco: My daughter was just suspended from school this morning for a day for a slick comment I don’t think is worthy of a suspension. You decide:

Teacher: Why are you late? My daughter: Why does it matter? you still get paid, right? <— this is detention worthy not suspension

After a slew of Ocho’s followers chimed in, Jicyra decided that it was time to give her two cents, which resulted in her being grounded – in front of 3 million people.
@ochocinco: Ok that comment just cost you, you’re grounded until further notice RT @Jicyraa_Carter@ochocinco Daddy , I got it from you so child please
 Talk about embarrassing!

Abby Sunderland – Teen Sailing Solo Around The World – Found Safe

Written by Violet on June 11, 2010 – 9:50 pm -

It’s not often sixteen year olds get to sail solo around the world so when one brave teen takes on the challenge, everyone takes note. Abby Sunderland, has attempted the adventure and she has found herself in the middle of not only the Indian Ocean, but a heated debate about what a teen should or shouldn’t be allowed to do on their own.

Sunderland set sail in her yacht, Wild Eyes, in an attempt to be the youngest person ever to circumnavigate the globe non-stop, alone and unassisted. In April she had to stop in Cape Town, South Africa for repairs and while it ended the non-stop part of her quest, Abby continued on after her auto pilot system was fixed. On June 10th, Sunderland set off her EPRIB’s (emergency beacons) after her boat was turned on it’s side and the mast snapped thanks to a storm near Madagascar. A rescue plane has spotted the teenager and her disabled boat and a nearby fishing vessel has been dispatched to pick up the stranded-at-sea teen.

Abby’s father, Laurence Sunderland, is telling reporters that his daughter’s journey is over for now, but the debate is raging on: was she too young to try it in the first place? Should her parents have stopped her? Would waiting until she was eighteen made that much of a difference? It wasn’t too long ago when the world was asking the same questions of Jessica Dubroff’s parents. Dubroff died in 1996 when she attempted a solo flight at the age of seven and was tragically unsuccessful.

What do you think? Is Abby brave or foolhardy? Are her parents supportive of her dreams or way to lenient? Sound off below!

Learn more about Abby on her official blog here and this one that her parents update.

Ava Anderson: Teen Launches Skincare Company

Written by Violet on January 29, 2010 – 8:42 am -

It isn’t often that you find a fifteen year-old as CEO of their own company but Ava Anderson is the exception. The high school-er has launched her own skincare line after finding out that many brands labelled as ‘natural’ were anything but.

After becoming a toxic ingredient junkie and sweeping the cosmetic aisles for pure choices – not to mention Mom and Grandma’s makeup bags – frustration led the precocious blonde to invent her own products that passed all non-toxic standards.

“Through a family friend, we found a manufacturer with research facilities that could develop and produce products to my standards. It was a great challenge to develop these revolutionary formulas and I had to reject many proposed formulations,” says Anderson.

The non-toxic beauty line, called simply Ava Anderson, is available online at her website or you can start your own Ava business, selling her line and making some cash for yourself. Check out this if you are interested in sharing the non-toxic message.

Coco Sumner In Intensive Care After Head Injury

Written by Violet on May 4, 2009 – 7:13 am -

Model, actress and aspiring singer Coco Sumner is in a Los Angeles hospital intensive care unit after collapsing at a restaurant and hitting her head on a chair. The 18 year old daughter of Sting and Trudie Styler was with a friend at dinner when the accident happened.

“The staff and Coco’s friend were very concerned and called for an ambulance and Coco was taken to hospital. No one was taking any chances as it was quite a scary fall. She hadn’t had anything to drink and it happened quite early into the evening. The doctors are still running tests.”

Sumner (real name: Eliot Pauline,) is living in LA while working on her debut album. Her father, Sting, was in the states and flew to her bedside with her mother flying in from London. Coco had a part in the film Stardust and was part of Burberry’s 2008 advertising campaign with hot models of the moment Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson.

Raven-Symone Speaks About Body Image to Teens

Written by Violet on January 15, 2009 – 12:38 pm -

Having anything short of a perfect body in Hollywood is truly the last taboo. Actress Raven-Symone is speaking out to young girls to help them with their body issues. She is hosting a self-esteem workshop with 100 girls ages 11 and 12 in Cape May NJ, sponsored by Dove. Her philosophy for handling people critical of her is simple: don’t let it get under your skin.

“People come up to me and have certain words for me, but you know what I do? I say, ‘I’m healthy, I exercise, I believe in myself, and I think I’m beautiful,’ ” she says. “You just have to learn how to transform the pressures into something that doesn’t soak into you on a personal level. You see it, you breathe past it, you don’t let it sink into your self-esteem.”

And to enforce her positive mantra, if something’s got her down, Raven has a simple technique. “At the end of the day I’ll call my best friend and yell and scream and get it out,” she says. “And the next morning, it’s out of my system.”

She also calls her mom – who does what all great moms do – her mom builds her up and gives her a confidence boost. A great positive story about someone giving back and helping others.
