The 21 year-old Hellcats’ star has been able to make the Disney star to serious actress transition successfully. Aly recently starred in hot movies like Emma Stone’s “Easy A” and Leighton Meester’s “The Roommate”.

“Hellcats” star Aly Michalka, the sister of AJ Michalka, posed for a very classy photo shoot featured on Venice Magazine (November 2010). The 21 year-old talks about the future of the 78violet duet and their new album, songwriting, being a teen in Hollywood and her co-star Ashley Tisdale.

Here are some highlights from Aly Michalka’s Venice Magazine interview:

On pursuing art after her teens: “As I got older, I just became more passionate about the art. Writing songs. Performing. Doing good quality work as an actor. I’m not interested in artistic pursuits for money or fame or accolades. I just want to make art that will hopefully make people feel inspired.”

On the new sound of 78violet: “Though the melodies are pop melodies, the songs are very heavily influenced by rock and definitely have a rock sound, not just a pop sound. And, yes, our music has changed a bit over the years as we’ve gotten a little older and started to have more freedom and more to say. My sister and I are both singer-songwriters. We do not want to be pop stars.”

On staying away from the club scene: “I’ve been fortunate enough to be blessed with a great family life and I do think that, in general, the choices you make do have something to do with the way you were raised and the friends that you have around you. We all surround ourselves with good friends that we really trust and we all have a focus that we don’t lose sight of. Personally, I really don’t like the club scene. All the loud noise and people yelling. I’d rather be in a more intimate setting, in my pajamas having a nice dinner.”

On her Hellcats scenes with Ashley Tisdale: “There is a level of comfort that we share with each other that definitely helps. And, coming from similar backgrounds in the industry, we both have the same work ethic and approach the work in the same way. I love that we have a friendship on the set and off. It’s nice to work with people you still want to hang out with after we wrap.”

Aly confessed she and her twin sister AJ Michalka admired Ashley’s style. In the interview, Aly and Ashley talk about glamour, love, confidence, music, and of course cheerleading. Ashley asks for respect for the cheerleaders’ hard work.

Here are some highlights from Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka’s Seventeen interview:

Aly: “When I think about old Hollywood and the glamour of those days, women like Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn were not dressing the way some girls dress today. There was a certain mystery about them, and I feel like that’s gone in our industry. If I can be a small part of that, to be able to be classy and have an aura of mystery, then that’s amazing.”

Ashley: “I definitely think cheerleaders have no fear. When I took the Hellcats job I was like whoa, this is a sport. Cheerleaders deserve a lot of respect for what they do.”

Aly: “When it comes to my sister [AJ] and I, I think the most shocking thing that people find out about us is the fact that we’re not competitive at all. We’ve actually auditioned for films for the same role together, and we’re not competitive. I think it’s because I would rather her get a job than anybody else if it wasn’t me.”

Ashley: “I know I come off like a very outgoing person, and yeah, I’m outgoing, but there’s also a part of me that still likes to be in my little shell sometimes.”

Aly: “In a serious relationship I will definitely write music about a guy. I’m totally into mix tapes and I’m all about small little things. I’ll drop by their door and just leave a gift or come over if they’re sick and make them chicken noodle soup and rent a DVD and play board games. I think those little things mean a lot to someone.”

Ashley: “I’m a very positive person, that’s something that’s like my character Savannah. She’s very positive in everything that she does and I’m the same way in real life. If I feel like someone’s trying to bring me down, I just walk away from it. I just ignore it because sometimes when that happens you can get so involved that it does bring down your day.”

Aly: “We were only four years apart from Ashley but AJ & I always wanted her to babysit us. We thought she was so cool and so hip.”

Ashley: “I would say to put yourself in the other person’s shoes before you’re quick to judge or assume something.”

Aly: “I think it’s important to see where compliments are coming from—if they’re compliments about your inside, your heart, or if they’re about your physicality or your personality. If a guy’s like ‘You’re so hot,’ that’s great but what about the other stuff? I think you can learn a lot about a guy from the way that he talks to you and the way that he compliments you. If he’s complimenting you when you’re just walking down the street and it’s something completely pure and of the moment, then that’s something you can take to heart.”

78Violet sisters Alyson “Aly” Michalka and Amanda Joy “AJ” Michalka were stalked by a scary man named Caesar Brantley, who tried to sneak into the gated community where the sisters live. AJ and Aly already had a restraining order against the guy and he was finally arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for disobeying a court order and felony stalking.

The girls reportedly were not home at the time and are currently OK. But this is not the first time Aly and AJ have to deal with a potentially dangerous stalker. A man was also arrested in 2008 for bombarding them with phone calls, letters, emails and online threats. Scary!

Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka will star in “Hellcats”, which will come to a TV set near you on CW this fall. This new show is about the new challenges of life in college, popularity and of course, cheerleading (watch trailer below). Fun!

We are not really excited about this new show. There is nothing really original about it. The cheerleading competition drama is a recurrent theme in different teen TV shows and movies. But we are excited to have Ashley Tisdale back!
