Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen Launch Website For The Row

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been quietly building their high-end clothing line The Row, for a few years now. The designs are versatile, fashionable and well-made and have been successful from the initial release in 2007. Growing their line, the sisters announced earlier this month that they would have their first runway fashion show for the Fall 2010 line at New York’s Fashion Week in February and now they are launching the website for their brand. Therow.com is understated and subtle with a tactile ‘feel’ using fabric samples as the background.

What does the look and the feel of the Web site say about the collection?
Mary-Kate Olsen: We looked at a lot of different Web sites before we started working on our own, and we thought most of them were too loud. We wanted The Row Web site to be subdued and very direct. I think that has been a philosophy behind The Row ever since we started the line. All of the background visuals are high-res images of actual fabric swatches from our collections. We wanted the viewer to really see all of the details of the beautiful fabrics we use—washed red silk charmeuse, the scales of our python skins, our cashmere modals. We wanted it to feel like you could reach out and touch everything.

The unique personal style that Mary-Kate and Ashley have cultivated can overshadow the fact that they are talented and passionate about their clothing lines and they have built a great business. I’m looking forward to their fashion show in NYC next month to see what they have planned for The Row.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen Design For JCPenney’s

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen are launching a teen line of clothing for JCPenney department stores called Olsenboye. The sisters will have the line in stores nationwide in February of 2010, but currently a preview is available in New York City stores.

“It’s really lighthearted, fun and stylish,” says Ashley.

“You have your basics and your trend pieces, and each season is based on a different city. It’s fun. And it’s good fashion.”

The fashion line is named after their ancestral Norwegian name and filled with inexpensive basics like leggings, flannel shirts, minidresses and t-shirts.

Ashley Olsen Covers Marie Claire (September 2009)

Fashionista Ashley Olsen looks absolutely beautiful on the cover of the latest issue of Marie Claire Magazine (September 2009). The 23 year-old actress talks about constantly being chased by the paparazzi and just being born fashionable!!

Here are some highlights from Ashley Olsen’s Marie Claire interview:

On her and Mary-Kate’s name: “Mary-Kate and I never really wanted our names on a bunch of different things. It wasn’t us — it never felt like us.”

On driving and the paparazzi: “I love driving. But sometimes I’m not too good with it because I spend too much time looking in the rearview mirror if I know I’m being followed. You don’t respond like, ‘Oh, there’s paparazzi.’ It’s more like, ‘There’s a man, and he’s gonna attack me.’ That’s how your body responds.”

On being born with a sense of style: “I think you’re either born with a sense of style or you’re not. Either you care or you don’t. And we”—she and Mary-Kate—”love fashion. When we were going to NYU, I think that was the first time we were aware of the power of our personal style. Not the power of it, but the result of it. Between the big sunglasses and the Starbucks cup and the big sweaters, the hobo-chic thing, we were more shocked than anything.”
