Miley Cyrus Issues Second Apology, Gets Invited To White House
Written by Violet on February 9, 2009 – 10:40 pm -
Miley Cyrus will be heading to the White House to screen her new Hannah Montana movie with Malia and Sasha Obama, but before that, she had to clear up some things regarding her now infamous photo that some found offensive. The picture taken by another ‘friend’ (and released on the net - nice…) had Miley and her boyfriend Justin Gaston and others making what appeared to be ‘asian eyes.’
In her original statement, many felt she wasn’t really apologizing, just blowing off the blame with the excuse that she was making a goofy face with her pals, so no harm done. Cyrus faced another round of sharp criticism in the media and by some prominent Asian groups who felt she did not pay attention to their concerns. She has gone back to her blog to send out a more contrite apology.
“I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of GOD’s ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be.”
This time around it sounds genuine. I think she felt attacked before, and perhaps rightfully so. I hope she has a chance to do things with her friends that don’t become national news because some one close to her releases/sells everything she does to the world.
The Obama girls will absolutely enjoy their experience with Miley for the Disney Hannah Montana movie.

Miley Cyrus Causing Controversy Insulting Asians
Written by Violet on February 2, 2009 – 11:40 pm -Hanging out with her friends and boyfriend Justin Gaston, Miley Cyrus and group pose for a picture while slanting their eyes. Needless to say, some people are upset. The OCA is issuing statements condemning Cyrus and gang for their poor taste in well, just about everything.
The OCA sent us [TMZ.com] this statement: “The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent…
Not suprisingly, the OCA is looking for an apology.
What I want to know is why can’t this kid stop getting her damn picture taken? When is it going to get drilled into her skull that she needs to live some of her life away from the cameras? How long will it take for her to realize that not everything in her life needs to be documented.
In my mind, it’s not just about this particular incident, (which in front of or behind a camera is not right but how serious depends on your outlook.) What’s really troubling is this girl seems to have no capacity or desire to live away from the camera. I don’t care if it’s a ‘friend’ who took this - she has to know by now that a picture of her will find it’s way onto the internet. Cyrus can’t be that dumb. Do her parents ground her like normal teenagers? Probably not. What will Disney do now? Her Hannah Montana movie is due out shortly and it could be a nightmare for promoters if this causes an uproar. I think it’s a little unhealthy that she seems to want to be in the spotlight all the time. It will not be good for her in the long run.
What’s your opinion? Let us hear YOU!

Jesse McCartney Confirmed For ‘The Last Airbender’
Written by Violet on January 30, 2009 – 11:32 pm -
With controversy swirling, M. Night Shyamalan has cast Jesse McCartney as Prince Zuko in The Last Airbender. The live action film version of Nickelodeon’s super successful animated show, Avatar: The Last Airbender, is receiving it’s share of criticism due to the all white cast. McCartney had this to say:
“There’s a lot of hard-core fans out there [who] probably know more about it…I’m still learning. This is M. Night’s vision and this is what he wants. To all the fans, I can tell you I’m putting my best foot forward.” He further adds, “I’ve been in kung-fu training for the last month and half-learning all the moves. I’m looking forward to it.”
The rest of the confirmed cast: Noah Ringer as Aang, Jackson Rathbone (he was Jasper in Twilight) as Sokka and Nicola Peltz as Katara.
The uproar is caused by many fans who believe asians actors should be cast as the lead characters. The show itself pulls many different styles of martials arts as inspirations for the movements of ‘bending’ (the ability to manipulate the natural elements.) There is also a distinct anime style to the drawing of the series and of course, asian mythology used thru the show. But were the characters meant to be specifically any particular ethnic group? The movie is due out sometime in 2010.
Jackson Rathbone cast as ‘Sokka’
Nicola Peltz cast as ‘Katara’
Let’s hear from you - what do you think?
