Emma Watson Really Is Magical
Written by Violet on July 31, 2009 – 9:27 pm -Emma Watson may have a magical history to her family tree. According to Ancestry.com, the young actress is related to a 16th century woman who was convicted of being a witch.
…English records show Watson’s distant relative was Joan Playle of Essex County, England, a 16th-century English woman convicted of witchcraft in 1592.Details are sketchy — naturally — and Playle’s conviction remain a mystery. She was unmarried, which often led to witchcraft accusations. During the Elizabethan era, poor, homely, old, widowed single women were often declared to be witches.
Apparently Playle was not executed but instead excommunicated (basically blacklisted/thrown out of) the Church of England.
Interesting bit of trivia on Emma’s family.
