The Vampire Diaries “The Return” Recap
Written by Violet on September 10, 2010 – 12:05 pm -The second season of The Vampire Diaries premiered Thursday night and wow! was it great!
The aptly titled episode “The Return” brought back so much more than just what we initally thought. Not only did Elena Gilbert’s doppleganger Katherine Pierce return (in crazy, manipulative vampire form with both parts played very well by Nina Dobrev) there was a return of the nasty, bitter, I-hate-humanity Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and the dominance of the Elena/Stefan (Paul Wesley) romance.
The show picks up right where season one ended… if you haven’t seen it and want to remain in the dark – don’t go any farther!

Chace Crawford Back In The USA After Volcano Blast
Written by Violet on April 25, 2010 – 2:50 pm -If you have to be stranded somewhere because of volcanic ash, London isn’t a bad place to be. Actor Chace Crawford found that out recently as he was forced to hang in London while the volcano in Iceland simmered to a low boil so planes had visibility to fly again.
“I was literally held hostage by volcano ash in London… They just wouldn’t let any planes out. I was supposed to be there ’til Saturday or Sunday. I didn’t care that much…My manager was working like a monkey on crack to get us out.”
Gossip Girl’s Nate Archibald, who is now back in the States, is rumored to be costarring with Mischa Barton in the upcoming movie Upstate.

Ashley Tisdale Dips Into The ‘Sharpay’ Well Again
Written by Violet on April 2, 2010 – 8:06 pm -The success of the High School Musical franchise is luring actress Ashley Tisdale back to her divalicious character once again. Disney is reviving Tisdale’s character Sharpay Evans for a big city exploit in a Disney Channel Original Movie – Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. Filming is set to start this summer and the movie will air sometime in 2011.
La Tisdale, who was leaving her gym in West Hollywood in the pic above, is also part of the upcoming CW series Hellcats with Aly Michalka and Teen Witch is supposed to start filming at the end of the year.
Ready for more Sharpay shenanigans? Or do you wish Ashley would move on?

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Author Pleased With TV Show
Written by Violet on September 25, 2009 – 10:36 pm -Author LJ Smith wrote the trilogy of books The Vampire Diaries, back in 1991. Thanks in part to the success of Twilight, these vampires have made it to television as a weekly show. Unlike Summit Entertainment Studios relationship with Twilight’s author Stephanie Meyer, Smith has had “minimal” input into the CW Network’s TV show of her work. So what does Smith think of the small screen adaptation of her work?
“I think they have done an incredible job of interpreting it, especially presenting it for a teen audience,” she said. “I love the music. I love the cinematography, I think the cast is fabulous. I especially like Damon. Ian Somerhalder does very well. But I really, really like the Elena that they picked, Nina Dobrev. Even though she’s brunette, and not blond, which took some getting used to for me because in the book she’s blond, she’s a great actress. And I love the Stefan [Paul Wesley] that they’ve picked.”
While she has been uncertain how some plot points would work out, she has been watching and is pleased with the results so far. Smith must be relieved to actually like the work. So often in Hollywood, an author is left out in the cold while studios change characters and plots at their whim and the author is left unhappy. Nice to hear someone is getting it right. I enjoy The Vampire Diaries - especially Ian Somerhalder, but I might have mentioned that a few times already…

‘Glee’ Episode 3: Acafellas
Written by Violet on September 17, 2009 – 12:00 am -Glee was back this week with “Acafellas” a good episode but a bit weaker than last week’s stellar season premiere.
Rachel (Lea Michele) provokes Will (Matthew Morrison) to take a backseat in the club’s musical direction and Quinn (Dianna Agron) and her fellow Cheerios get Rachel to hire Dakota Stanley, a famously tough choreographer who they hope will crush the Glee’s enthusiasm with his legendary meanness. (Stanley remarks to the wheelchair bound Artie (Kevin McHale) “you’re not trying hard enough to walk!”)
Will gets the idea to form a group with his fellow teachers and they name themselves the Acafellas. After two drop out, Finn (Cory Montieth) joins, along with his football rival Puck (Mark Salling) who has given up teenaged girls and is interested in cougars; and the Acafellas perform for the PTA meeting. Josh Grobin makes a guest appearance at the end
“I Wanna Sex You Up,” “Bust Your Windows,” “This Is How We Do It” and “Mercy” were performed this week but Coach Sue Sylvester played by Jane Lynch steals the show. Lynch’s deadpan delivery and atrociously manipulative behavior is simply sinfully delightful to watch.
I left out the sub plots in this recap because well, they made the show falter in it’s pace. The Mercedes/Kurt romance was silly and the Sandy/Josh Grobin appearance was distracting, although Grobin was funny when he told Will’s mother he “loves a blousy alcoholic.”
Episode 3 was enjoyable and had lots of laughs, not the same level as last week’s “Showmance” but still a solid hour of television. Bring on Episode 4: Preggers!

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Girls Arrested in Georgia
Written by Violet on September 12, 2009 – 9:32 pm -The Vampire Diaries premiered this week on the CW Network and now website The Smoking Gun has uncovered the arrest of the young stars of the new series. On August 22nd, actresses Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Kayla Ewell and Sara Canning were arrested outside Atlanta, Georgia on charges of disorderly conduct as motorists phoned in reporting the group hanging from Rumble Road Bridge.
According to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office report, the actresses were being shot by photographer Tyler Shields, whose digital cameras were inspected by a cop who discovered numerous images showing “the females hanging, sitting and straddling the bridge.” One photo, a deputy noted, “even showed one female being held by her legs by the other females, as if they were trying to throw her over.”
The four were arrested along with another actress, Krystal Vayda and photographer Tyler Shields who was taking photos of the group. Whatever photo shoot this was for, it was poor planning on the part of the photog (or maybe it’s genius publicity!) Shields paid the $4000 fine and all were released.
Nice mugshots – really.
Who watched TVD? I enjoyed it – hopefully they will spend more money on special effects in the next episodes but otherwise it was a pretty good start. Besides, it has Ian Somerhalder in it.
