It’s getting close to the return of The Vampire Diaries and we’ve got photos from the season 3 opener “The Birthday” and some details of the ep.

We know the show starts up with Elena’s 18th birthday (so she’s legal guardian to her younger brother Jeremy, now that Aunt Jenna is dead.) Stefan is on his Great Ripper Race with Klaus and Damon is brooding. Caroline and Tyler are getting closer – much closer. Jeremy still sees dead people, but now he does it at the Mystic Grill, working with Matt.

TVD returns Thursday, September 15th at 8pm ET.

The Vampire Diaries stars are red hot and Rolling Stone grabs the super sexy leads for a fun photo shoot.

Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev fall, jump and stare in the hottest way possible. I mean seriously – who else but these three can fall and look absolutely amazing at the same time!

Here’s what they had to say:

Ian wants you to peep TVD: “The whole Twilight thing is about to be over. And teenage girls can’t watch True Blood with their parents — that would just get weird. So we’re getting ready to kick some major ass this season.”

Nina on the photo shoot: “We’ve been doing a photo shoot that’s unlike any that we’ve done before,” says Dobrev. “We’re testing the limits of gravity.” (Err… falling is actually adhering to the laws of gravity… I’m guessing she’s referring to how the end shots look.)

TVD is back with season 3 premiering Thursday, September 15th at 8pm ET. Their issue of Rolling Stone (with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the cover) is on sale now.

The Vampire Diaries season 3 premiere is still too far away, but luckily the CW is giving us naked Ian Somerhalder to tide fans over.

Yep, that’s right. Damon gets soaped up in the new sizzle reel and gives Elena (Nina Dobrev) an eyeful.

And being TVD, you have to wait for it – around the 3:10 mark.

It’s mostly a rehash of what happened last year: Stefan (Paul Wesley) going on a blood bender with Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Elijah (Daniel Gillies) explaining the hybrid deal. Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) and the ghosts of girlfriends past (Malese Jow & Kayla Ewell) after Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) spell has unintended consequences. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) trying to keep Tyler (Michael Trevino) from biting them while in wolf form.

Then, like in every episode, the last few moments bring the wow…

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev spent Saturday afternoon together at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

The Vampire Diaries twosome has played it pretty shady about their off screen relationship however they spent their time on the grass with Joshua Jackson and Diane Krueger while checking out various bands at the annual music fest that is absolutely overrun with celebs and paparazzi.

There were no obvious signs of coupledom – no kissing or hand holding – and they were clearly aware of the photographers (who wouldn’t be) but it certainly appears they have taken their on screen chemistry off screen as well.

Somerhalder appeared on Live with Regis & Kelly recently and when asked told the chat show hosts his girlfriend was “The Vampire Diaries.”

Dobrev covered Teen Vogue in April and gave close to a flat out denial saying: “We expected the rumors,” she says. “Like, if I wasn’t dating Ian, I’d be dating Paul [Wesley]. A lot of people who work together end up dating, so it wouldn’t be unusual, but I’ve never dated anyone I’ve worked with.”

If the two are dating, they’ve come pretty darn close to outright lying and if they’re not, well then they’ve gotten great publicity out of it all. (There have been tweets from people who’ve seen them together on Valentine’s Day and around Atlanta where TVD is filmed and a photo of the two taken at Christmas time.)

Everyone is entitled to their privacy, and if they are dating and want to keep it to themselves, that’s fine – but why choose to answer those questions in such a way that looks duplicitous in the end?

Either way – they certainly are hot together, that’s for sure!

The Vampire Diaries is all new tonight and after last weeks showdown of Tyler and the wolf pack VS Stefan & Damon (with a little big Jonas assist) Stefan and Elena try to get away from it all and have a nice weekend of togetherness. Not happening.

Here is the official synopsis of episode 2.14 “Crying Wolf”

SECRETS AND LIES — Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) get away for what they hope will be a romantic weekend at the Gilbert family lake house, not realizing that they’ve been followed. Jenna (Sara Canning) starts to worry that Alaric (Matt Davis) isn’t being honest with her. Jules (guest star Michaela McManus) explains the importance of the sun and moon curse to Tyler (Michael Trevino), but leaves out an important detail. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) attends a tea at the Historical Society in order to talk to Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies), but Elijah isn’t giving up any secrets. With help from Caroline (Candice Accola) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) uses deceptive measures to get shocking new information out of Luka (guest star Bryton James). Finally, Tyler offers Matt (Zach Roerig) some relationship advice. David Von Ancken directed the episode written by Brian Young (#214).

The long wait is finally OVER!

The Vampire Diaries returns tonight with episode 12 “The Descent” and it’s all new! All Delena shippers rejoice – Damon and Elena get close and hug – at least for a moment (see that photo below.) Caroline is getting kissed by Tyler and Matt and Rose descends into madness.

Here is the official synopsis:

DOOM, GLOOM AND PERSONAL GROWTH — Stefan (Paul Wesley) has his own ideas about Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) new plan for the future.  While Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries to get the truth out of Jules (guest star Michaela McManus), he asks Elena to keep an eye on Rose (guest star Lauren Cohan), a situation that turns unexpectedly dangerous.  Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) try to be honest about their feelings for one another, and Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) reaction to Caroline’s generosity comes as a surprise to her.  Damon struggles to hide his true feelings when a life-and-death crisis hits him harder than he expected.  Matt Davis also stars.  Marcos Siega directed the episode written by Sarah Fain & Elizabeth Craft (#212).

Despite their different approaches, Damon and Stefan love each other. Ian said, “These two have had every opportunity to kill each other and they can’t do it. They love each other.”

“The Vampire Diaries” actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore in The CW’s hit show, doesn’t believe a romance between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon will happen anytime soon. Elena would have to be crazy to give Damon a chance.

However, Ian admits that Elena makes Damon more human. Vampire Diaries fans want Elena and Damon to get together… I do! That would spice things up and could be a breaking point for the Salvatore brothers.

“I think she’d be crazy,” he said. “Damon is so dangerous, does all the wrong things, acts from a selfish place.”

He added: “I know this is going to sound contradictory, but the only time you ever see Damon acting remotely human is around Elena… There’s all these conflicting issues and emotions and thoughts.

“Elena brings out the good in Damon and in many ways Damon brings out the good in Elena. I think sometimes the people who do that to you, you often have the most complicated relationships with.”

There’s one “minor” obstacle in Elena and Damon’s way… he actually temporarily killed her brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). Elena would be able to easily forget what a monster Damon can be, but she is the only one that will be able to change him. And Elena is the only person Damon actually cares about.

“I think it would be a long road for him and Elena,” he said. “I can’t imagine how he’s going to get back in her good graces. Short of ripping her necklace off and compelling her to forget, I don’t know how you get over that. The only truly redeeming quality I think Damon has is that he will do anything to protect her.”

Who is rooting for Damon and Elena to eventually get together in the future? There is still a long way to go, but Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) is also not exactly that perfect “person” he appears to be. The vegan vampire goes nuts with a taste of human blood. I tell you no more…

The Vampire Diaries is on tonight (Thursday October 7th) with episode 5: “Kill or Be Killed.” This sounds like a Lockwood family/werewolf heavy episode (with a dash of Caroline run amok) which is OK by me as long as there are lots of shirtless shots of Taylor Kinney and Michael Trevino. I’m just sayin’…

MASON’S PAST IS REVEALED — Tyler (Michael Trevino) learns more about the Lockwood family curse from Mason (guest star Taylor Kinney).  Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) argue over how to handle Mason.  Elena (Nina Dobrev) tries to keep Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) from becoming more involved with the Lockwood mystery, but Jeremy makes an effort to hang out with Tyler.  Mason gives Sheriff Lockwood (Marguerite MacIntyre) some startling information, leading to a night of violence, confession and heartbreak.  Candice Accola also stars.  Jeff Woolnough directed the episode written by Mike Daniel.

“The Vampire Diaries” executive producer, Kevin Williamson, promised there will be new developments that will lead to a real romance between Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who is his brother Stefan Salvatore’s (Paul Wesley) girlfriend.

YAY! Damon and Elena’s romance would be like super hot, extra sexy and kind of forbidden. And those are the right ingredients for the success of the second season… or third season of The CW’s hit show. Elena will need some time to forgive Damon’s reckless behavior.

Williamson explained: “The premiere for me was our underhanded way of saying that this is the year we have to deal head on with the relationship between Damon and Elena.”

“I think he has such a long road to haul before he can ever be a viable option in her eyes. He’s done so many horrible things – his attack on Jeremy being the worst. I don’t know how you ever get over such a deliberately evil move. It’s going to take a long time for her to get over that. But as Katherine said, hate is the beginning of most love stories.”

He continued: “It’s romantic comedy 101 – they have to hate each other first, and that will eventually turn itself inside out. But whether or not it’s this season or next season, we’ll have to wait and see.”

As much as I love Stefan and Elena’s sweet love and romance, I believe Damon and Elena will be much more exciting together. Sparks will fly. Get ready because they will set your TV screen on fire!!
