It’s getting close to the return of The Vampire Diaries and we’ve got photos from the season 3 opener “The Birthday” and some details of the ep.

We know the show starts up with Elena’s 18th birthday (so she’s legal guardian to her younger brother Jeremy, now that Aunt Jenna is dead.) Stefan is on his Great Ripper Race with Klaus and Damon is brooding. Caroline and Tyler are getting closer – much closer. Jeremy still sees dead people, but now he does it at the Mystic Grill, working with Matt.

TVD returns Thursday, September 15th at 8pm ET.

The Vampire Diaries stars are red hot and Rolling Stone grabs the super sexy leads for a fun photo shoot.

Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev fall, jump and stare in the hottest way possible. I mean seriously – who else but these three can fall and look absolutely amazing at the same time!

Here’s what they had to say:

Ian wants you to peep TVD: “The whole Twilight thing is about to be over. And teenage girls can’t watch True Blood with their parents — that would just get weird. So we’re getting ready to kick some major ass this season.”

Nina on the photo shoot: “We’ve been doing a photo shoot that’s unlike any that we’ve done before,” says Dobrev. “We’re testing the limits of gravity.” (Err… falling is actually adhering to the laws of gravity… I’m guessing she’s referring to how the end shots look.)

TVD is back with season 3 premiering Thursday, September 15th at 8pm ET. Their issue of Rolling Stone (with the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the cover) is on sale now.

The Vampire Diaries season 3 premiere is still too far away, but luckily the CW is giving us naked Ian Somerhalder to tide fans over.

Yep, that’s right. Damon gets soaped up in the new sizzle reel and gives Elena (Nina Dobrev) an eyeful.

And being TVD, you have to wait for it – around the 3:10 mark.

It’s mostly a rehash of what happened last year: Stefan (Paul Wesley) going on a blood bender with Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Elijah (Daniel Gillies) explaining the hybrid deal. Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) and the ghosts of girlfriends past (Malese Jow & Kayla Ewell) after Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) spell has unintended consequences. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) trying to keep Tyler (Michael Trevino) from biting them while in wolf form.

Then, like in every episode, the last few moments bring the wow…

The Vampire Diaries has only two new episodes left between now and the holidays so they have to pack the kinda punch that keeps everyone hooked until the January 2011 shows. The big teaser all season long has been will Tyler (Michael Trevino) Lockwood activate the curse (yes!) and when will his transformation to a werewolf be seen. Executive producer Julie Plec explained the upcoming December 2nd episode like this:

“They shot it (the transformation) over two days. Closed set, special effects makeup guys, visual effects guys, Michael Trevino ready to rip out his soul and expose it bare to the world. I think if it’s even half as good as what we want it to be, it’s gonna be amazing.”

This part we already knew, but what she says next is kinda spoilery so don’t go further if you don’t want to know!

Thursday night (September 30th) is a new episode of The Vampire Diaries titled “Memory Lane.” The official synopsis:

DAMON MAKES A DANGEROUS ENEMY — Stefan (Paul Wesley) takes drastic measures to find out the real reason Katherine (Nina Dobrev) has returned to Mystic Falls, and is shocked when she reveals new secrets about what really happened in 1864.  Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries a new tactic to resolve his issues with Mason, (guest star Taylor Kinney), but it proves costly.  Tyler (Michael Trevino) pushes Mason to tell him the truth about the Lockwoods. Finally, when Katherine delivers an ultimatum, Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev) are left with very few options.  Sara Canning, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig and Matt Davis also star.  Rob Hardy directed the episode written by Caroline Dries.

Two more super sexy photos to promote the second season of The Vampire Diaries have surfaced with Nina Dobrev center stage.

These (I believe) showcase the duality of Nina’s two characters Katherine Pierce and Elena Gilbert. The photo with Nina, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder dressed in black has the evil, narcissist vampire Katherine lounging with the Salvatore brothers and the cast pic in white is Elena torn between her men. The show and the cast are on fire!

“The Vampire Diaries” star Paul Wesley, who plays the good Salvatore brother, reveals that Stefan will be really mad when he finds out his brother, Damon Salvatore, kissed his girlfriend, Elena.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ New Season 2 Teaser Trailer

Well, maybe Damon didn’t kiss Elena, but Katherine, who returned from the undead in the first season finale. The plot thickens. Kat is back and she wants the Salvatore brothers back. Kat cannot even consider Stefan might be really in love with her human lookalike, Elena.

“Stefan’s first reaction is, ‘I’m going to kill you’,” Wesley told Zap2It. “‘Like, I am literally going to kill you, rip you apart. This is my beautiful girl. This is the love of my life. Stay the hell away’.”

However, he added: “The thing is, Damon and Stefan have done this dance before. All Stefan is thinking is, ‘I’m not going to let you do this to me’. Eventually, his second reaction is to realize that his anger has never gotten him anywhere with Damon. Fighting fire with fire is just going to get you fire.”

“He’s furious with Damon for acting on his feelings for Elena, but more than that, he’s afraid that with everything going on, Damon is going to shut down again,” he said. “He’s going to lose all the humanity that Stefan and Elena have cultivated in him.

“Stefan can’t let that happen. At the end of the day, he absolutely loves his brother, and that’s a significant element of the story. In my opinion, it’s the most significant element of the story… He’s still really freakin’ p*ssed though!”

We will finally get to know a wilder side of Stefan. The Salvatore brothers are set to fight once again for the love of the same woman, but who will that woman be? Katherine or Elena? Or will they switch? Kat rekindles with Stefan and Damon falls completely for Elena?

The Vampire Diaries season two will premiere on The CW Thursday, September 9. I can’t wait!

“The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore beat Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen as the sexiest beast in Entertainment Weekly’s Sexy Beast tournament. Damon is officially the sexiest vampire ever! I told you SO!

Damon Salvatore eked out a mild upset victory over Edward Cullen by a margin of 138,630 to 134,728, a difference of just 3,902 votes. Sorry Robert Pattinson!

At first Ian was not convinced he could compete against Twilight’s Cullen. He tweeted, “That Pattinson guy will end up kicking my butt, however thanks for taking the time, that’s really cool:)”

Ian ended up kicking Robert’s butt!! He revealed on Twitter: “You didn’t want to or if your child made you- thank you do tue support and thank you EW for all of your support. The VD crew now has a nickname for me… I meant: every one is calling me a sexy beast on set:)”

YES! YES! LOVE IAN!! Congratulations, you sexy beast!

The Vampire Diaries is pulling out all the stops for season 2 dubbing it ‘The Year of the Kat’ as Katherine (Nina Dobrev) the vampire who set everything in motion with the Salvatore (Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder) brothers, returns.

The Vampire Diaries characters are going to have their histories told in new novels starting this fall. Stefan’s Diaries Vol 1: Origins is the first of a planned trilogy to hit the shelves in November. The books will focus on the civil war era, when Stefan Salvatore (played in the TV show by Paul Wesley) and his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) became enthralled with Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) the seductress that eventually made them vampires and turned them against each other.

The show is based on books written by LJ Smith and the timeline of the characters is very different. This will be a great way to bridge the gap that fans of both the original story and the TV show have.

Origins is due in bookstores November 2nd and the next book, Bloodlust follows on January 4, 2011. Original author Smith is working on a spin-off series focusing on the character Damon and the final book finishes up March 15, 2011.
