Nina Dobrev hit up the 25th Annual Gemini Awards on Saturday November 13th at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria but raised in Canada, returned to Toronto as part of the 30th Anniversary Degrassi tribute the Gemini Awards planned for the evening. Nina played Mia on the high school teen drama from 2006 to 2009.

The 21 year-old is currently starring as both human Elena Gilbert and vampire Katherine Pierce on the hit CW show The Vampire Diaries. She will costar with Samuel L. Jackson and Kellan Lutz in The Killing Games (formerly called Deathgames) due out in 2011.

The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev looks fabulous on the cover of the Atlanta area magazine Jezebel. Dobrev opened up about her role on Degrassi, how much she loves playing Katherine on TVD and enjoying Atlanta:

Degrassi was a great first acting job: “[...]The show taught me a lot about being on set and how to act on camera, because I was very green. I ended up spending four years on “Degrassi,” but because it was a Canadian show made far away from Hollywood, I was able to get into the business more progressively. A lot of people who start acting at an early age lose their sense of reality, but I had time to be a normal kid while at the same time doing this thing I loved.”

Playing evil vamp Katherine rocks: “I’ve played nice girls before–Mia Jones of “Degrassi” was a nice girl–but Katherine has an edge to her that I haven’t had a chance to play before, so it’s a challenge that keeps things fresh and exciting.”

Atlanta area awesomeness: “We’ve been to a lot of places around Atlanta, but still haven’t discovered as much of the city as we’d like to because we film 15-hour days. But when we do go out, I love that there are so many diverse pockets to explore, from Buckhead and Inman Park to Little 5 Points, which has that awesome urban edge.”

Degrassi: The Next Generation is back for it’s season 9 premiere on TeenNick Friday October 9th. For this year’s opener, titled “Just Can’t Get Enough” Mia has a surprise for Peter – she’s been offered a modelling contract in Paris. Peter decides to go with her, but he later realizes he doesn’t fit in with her crowd. At a party, someone offers meth to Peter. Back at Degrassi, Alli is suspicious when the new girl named Jenna befriends Clare. Meanwhile Holly J becomes stressed with her president duties.

‘Degrassi Goes Hollywood’ - The Canadian show that on Nickelodeon’s The N cable network in the states, has it’s first full length feature debuting this Friday, August 14th at 8pm EST. Lauren Collins and Adamo Ruggiero popped in to MTV’s ‘It’s On With Alexa Chung’ and promoted the movie. The costars are real life roomies and have great chemistry.
