‘The Last Airbender’ Trailer With Jackson Rathbone

Written by Violet on February 15, 2010 – 11:12 pm -

Nickelodeon’s incredibly popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender is headed to the big screen with director M. Night Shymalan overseeing the live action film. Jackson Rathbone has left his Twilight character of Jasper Hale behind and plays Sokka, the wisecracking, boomerang-throwing Southern water tribe teen who, along with his sister Katara (Nicola Peltz) help airbender Aang (Noah Ringer) discover his true destiny and restore balance to the world. After casting controversy, Dev Patel has the role of Prince Zuko of the Fire nation and Jesse McCartney is not the banished prince.

The Last Airbender will hit theaters July 2nd, 2010.

‘The Last Airbender’ Behind The Scene Photos

Written by Violet on January 1, 2010 – 9:09 am -

The Last Airbender, the live action version of Nickelodeon’s popular animated show, Avatar, isn’t due until July but we are finally getting a few more set photos. The pics were in Empire magazine and our friends at BackseatCuddler.com have them for us to take a peek at. No shots still of Jackson Rathbone as Sokka or Dev Patel as Prince Zuko (there is one shot of Dev on the movie’s imdb page here.) Guess we will have to wait until the full trailer is released in February.

I am looking forward to this. The series was great and I have high hopes that M Night Shyamalan does craft a great film from the material.

‘Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief’ Movie Featurette

Written by Violet on December 30, 2009 – 12:04 am -

Logan Lerman, who plays the title role in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is set to take on mythological creatures big and small in the upcoming movie. As Percy, he is beset by troubles every year at school until he learns why - he is a half-blood hero, son of Poseidon, one of the gods of Mount Olympus. Being set up as a thief of Zeus’ powerful lightning bolt, Percy and his friends Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and Annabeth, (Alexandra Daddario) travel across the country to clear his name and avoid a war between the Greek gods. Unfortunately for them, monsters line up to try and thwart his quest. This movie featurette gives us a glimpse at some of the battles Percy and The Gang will face.

The books by Rick Riordan are great! The movie looks fantastic. Chris Columbus is directing (Harry Potter 1 and 2) and has Pierce Brosnan as the centaur, Chiron and Uma Thurman as Medusa. I can’t wait to check it February 12, 2010.

Robert Pattinson HitFix Interview

Written by Violet on November 9, 2009 – 9:05 am -

With the full court press for the premiere of The Twilight Saga: New Moon underway, the young stars are giving LOTS of interviews and here is a new one from Robert Pattinson. The actor spoke about the differences the three directors (Catherine Hardwicke for the first film, Chris Weitz for the upcoming New Moon and David Slade for next year’s Eclipse) brought to the series of films. From the interview, Pattinson says that there will be even more fighting and action scenes for Eclipse than New Moon.

What do you think? Want more action? or more of the love story of Bella and Edward?

Don’t forget (not that anyone will!) The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens in theaters November 20th.

Taylor Lautner’s New Interview With Boxoffice Magazine

Written by Violet on September 25, 2009 – 8:27 pm -

Twilight

Get ready girls - there is a new Taylor Lautner interview floating out there in cyberspace. The seventeen year old who is the fantasy of tons of girls (just look at the responses we get here on this post or this one…) gave Boxoffice.com the scoop on his love of romantic comedies and the film The Notebook, his shirtless pictures make him embarrassed, working with Taylor Swift on Valentine’s Day,  and how guys will like the story more in New Moon. Here he is talking about playing Jacob:

What do you like about playing Jacob?

I love Jacob and Bella’s relationship. It’s very different from Edward and Bella’s. Jacob and Bella start off as really good friends. They become best friends—they can tell each other anything, they do whatever together, ride motorcycles. I love that. And then their relationship starts growing into more and more, and you wonder if they’re going to go past friends. I love being able to do that. And work with an amazing actress, Kristen Stewart, and all of the help around us, our director Chris Weitz, the whole crew. It’s a lot of fun.

There is lots more from Lautner at Boxoffice.com - Check it out. Great interview.

Written by Violet on September 25, 2009 – 8:57 am -

Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore’s new movie Whip It opens Friday October 2nd and the stars are taking part in a fan based q and a on moviefone.com. Curious about what it was like for Page on Juno? Wonder how she liked roller derby? How much fun was it voicing Alaska Nebraska (the Hannah Montana parody) on The Simpsons? Well go here and submit your question for your shot at getting an answer!

In Whip it, Page, the 22 year old star of Barrymore’s directorial debut, is a beauty queen who is unhappy with her pageant life and finds bliss in roller derby instead.

Stephanie Meyer’s ‘The Host’ Getting A Script

Written by Violet on September 23, 2009 – 4:13 pm -

Famous for her Twilight series of novels that are now movie phenomenons, author Stephanie Meyer will have her other book tuned into a movie as well. Three producers have purchased the screen rights to her novel, The Host and Andrew Niccol is attached to direct and write the screenplay. For those who don’t know the basic plot of her non-Twilight book here is a summary:

Meyer’s novel is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species of benevolent parasites that call themselves “Souls.” One such soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder, in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth.

Obviously still in it’s early stages, no casting or release date is ready yet.

‘New Moon’ Director Chris Weitz Interview

Written by Violet on September 19, 2009 – 9:24 pm -

The Twilight Saga: New Moon release is still two months away, but director Chris Weitz has given boxoffice.com a short interview about the upcoming movie. Of course, the filmmaker was asked about the rumoured romantic relationship between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and while he didn’t confirm it - he did give a very interesting answer to the supposed secrecy.

One of my favorite New Moon conspiracy theories is that the producers are ordering Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson to keep their love hidden because it will affect the way people will perceive the story, even though the story is already known even until the next two books.

The fans know what the Volturi look like or what Taylor Lautner as Jacob’s amazing bod is going to look like—the producers know these things are big points of curiosity about whether we’ve been able to be faithful to people’s notions. And they want to parse these things out over time. [Laughs] It is a conspiracy, but the conspiracy is called marketing.

While that is what everyone will focus on, I thought his answers about the actual storyline and how he chooses to film it, were really fascinating. He mentions he feels almost liberated about making a movie from a book, where the ending is already known to the audience. That is unique, many artists feel just the opposite - worried about negative fan reaction to any visual or storyline changes.

This is sequel is shaping up to possibly be better than original in many ways. I know by the feedback we get everyone is super excited about the November movie.

‘How To Be’ Director Talks Robert Pattinson

Written by Violet on September 16, 2009 – 10:54 pm -

Oliver Irving directed a small independent film How To Be that featured Robert Pattinson before he exploded in popularity as Edward Cullen of the Twilight series. Pattinson had been a part of the Harry Potter phenomenon with his role of Cedric Diggory in Goblet of Fire, however his fan base was nothing compared to what it became with his vampire role. Irving cast Pattinson in between those two blockbusters for the part of Art, a 25 year-old guy stumbling through life confused and without much direction. Irving got very lucky and thanks to Pattinson’s fan base, How To Be is being seen by a wider audience than it probably would’ve been otherwise. With the upcoming DVD release on November 17th - right around the premiere of New Moon - the director is praising Pattinson’s ability to inhabit the character he developed for the film.

How was Robert Pattinson chosen for the role of Art? Did his musical ability play a role in his casting?
“We found him after a year and a half’s worth of casting calls. He just seemed the right person for the job. He was interesting to look at – but down to earth enough to play the part. He really seemed to “get it” – he knew people like the characters in the script, and understood the main character ‘ART’. Not having gone through drama school, Rob’s acting and response to direction fit in well with other main cast members who were not trained actors either. Rob actually underplayed his musical ability in the auditions, as he knew the character was meant to be rough around the edges when it comes to musical ability – but it actually was invaluable in the end that he understood the music references and had the technical ability to pull off what we were asking from him.”

I look forward to catching this on DVD and want to see his flick with Pierce Brosnan and Emilie de Ravin Remember Me when it comes out in February of 2010.

Who caught this film on the IFC Channel a couple of months ago? What did you think of the movie? Was Pattinson good? Tell us what you thought of his un-Edward performance.
