Sisters Alyson and Amanda Michalka (better known as Aly & AJ) went shopping Sunday afternoon in Hollywood California. Aly’s movie with Vanessa Hudgens and Gaelen Connell, Bandslam opened this weekend and did very poorly at the box office (even with the exclusive New Moon trailer in front of it.) AJ will be in the upcoming Peter Jackson film The Lovely Bones and the duo has renamed their band 78violet and are working on new material for a new album.

UPDATE: We are getting a number of comments regarding these pictures NOT being Aly & AJ. They are identified as such by WENN the photo agency who took them, and I think if you look closely – these girls do have the chins and mouths of Aly & AJ. The hair is different but it does appear to be them. We welcome alternative opinions and will change the post if we find out that these two girls are not Aly & Aj. – Violet

Lots of big movies opening this weekend, including the teen musical ‘Bandslam’ and star Gaelen Connell wants you to know it’s different than ‘High School Musical.’ With the obvious similarities of costar Vanessa Hudgens and having a musical competition central to it’s theme, Connell says that is where the comparisons should end.

“This is like an actual high school for the 95 percent of us who were kind of friends with popular kids, then kind of friends with the not popular kids, and I think it’s pretty interesting to see that in a Hollywood film because it’s usually so black and white. You know, there’s a cheerleader, then like I said, there’s McLovin. This is not like that at all, it’s very edgy and real.”

MTV has a new clip from the upcoming Vanessa Hudgens movie ‘Bandslam’ which opens Friday August 14th. Co-starring with Gaelan Connell, Hudgens plays Sa5m, (‘the five is silent’) who forms a band & enters a contest with Connell’s Will and the popular cheerleader, Charlotte, played by Aly Michalka.

Earlier in the week, Hudgens was reminded of her nude picture scandal when those old photos resurfaced from 2 years ago. It has been speculated that they were ‘accidentally’ released just in time to promote her new movie. What do you think?

A brand new photo for the Vanessa Hudgens summer movie Bandslam has shown up on the net. Due out July 31, 2009, Hudgens co-stars with Alyson Michalka, Gaelen Connell and Lisa Kudrow about a high school misfit and the popular girl who form a friendship and get together a group of teens to compete in a battle of the bands.
