Saoirse Ronan: Filming In The Desert “Was Tough Sometimes”
Written by Violet on December 20, 2010 – 1:04 am -Saoirse Ronan attended the premiere of The Way Back held at the Cinematheque Francaise in Paris along with costars Colin Farrell, Ed Harris and Jim Sturgess.
The film, a true story about a rag-tag group of escaped prisoners who trek 4,000 miles to reach freedom, had the actors in many different outdoor climates (including filming in the desert, Siberian and mountain settings as well) to portray the long, arduous journey the escapees undertook. On the London premiere red carpet, Ronan and costars were asked what was the hardest thing they had to endure while filming.
Saoirse said “It was tough sometimes to be in such a warm climate,” referring to their time in Morocco, but everyone got along well and there really weren’t problems otherwise.
Check out the video interview below and a few photos of Saorise as she heads inside for her interview on RTE television in Dublin this weekend.

Saoirse Ronan ‘The Way Back’ Premiere (Photos)
Written by Violet on December 12, 2010 – 7:11 pm -Saoirse Ronan walked the red carpet for the London premiere of her film The Way Back earlier this week. The 16 year-old Irish star posed for photos (some with costar Colin Farrell,) at the Curzon Mayfair Cinemas.
Ronan received praise from her other costar, veteran actor Ed Harris who said:
“She was so present in a cool way and really mysterious. I loved working with her. She was just 16 when we made it, I think, a little bit older than my daughter. She had a wonderful work ethic, really friendly, always in good spirits, charming, pretty. I felt a little bit protective of her, though she didn’t really need that. We had a really nice thing. I loved just being totally simple and honest with her. She’s living and breathing in the moment and you’re able to just experience that with her.”
The Way Back is based on the memoirs of a man who escaped a Siberian gulag with other prisoners and they walked 4000 miles to their freedom in India. The film gets released in Los Angeles on December 29th (presumably to qualify for Oscars) and then goes to more theaters January 2011.

‘Harry Potter’ Star Evanna Lynch: JK Rowling Saved Me From Anorexia
Written by Violet on November 23, 2010 – 9:36 pm -Evanna Lynch has a lot to be grateful for from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. The Deathly Hallows actress says that before she was cast as the lovely and loopy Luna, she wrote to Rowling and the mega-successful author was inspirational in helping her overcome an eating disorder at the young age of 11.
“I told her the books gave me hope, particularly Luna Lovegood,” said Evanna. “I told how I looked up to her. She wrote back and was like a counsellor. She told me anorexia is destructive, not creative, and the brave thing was not to succumb to it. I told her I’d love to be in the films and she encouraged that but said I’d need to be well to do so. In the end I think that’s why I recovered.”
Lynch, of course, went on to win the role she was so captivated with and has been able to put her anorexia behind her to costar in the HP films. (She really is a perfect Luna, don’t you think?)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 is in theaters now.

Saoirse Ronan: Irish Magazine ‘U’ Cover
Written by Violet on November 10, 2010 – 1:49 pm -Saoirse Ronan landed on the cover of Irish Magazine U and she looks fierce! The talented Ronan has come under some scrutiny lately (similiar to Chloe Moretz) for being so young and taking on very adult roles. Ronan is playing killers/assassins in her next films: Hannah (to start filming next year) and Violet and Daisy currently filming. (In my opinion, both Moretz and Ronan seem well-adjusted away from Hollywood trappings so they should continue taking these parts and challenging perceptions.)
The teenage actress has her professional plate full – with tons of new movies in the pipeline. She is so sought after, Moviefone named her one of their 25 Under 25 stars to watch for the coming year:
Age: 16
What She’s Done: The Irish-born actress received Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for her performance in ‘Atonement’; starred in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of ‘The Lovely Bones.’
What’s Next: She’ll star in the WWII prison drama ‘The Way Back,’ re-team with her ‘Atonement’ director for the action-thriller ‘Hannah,’ and bring the young adult novel ‘The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle’ to the big-screen as the title character.
Did You Know? Ronan got her start working on prime-time medical dramas in her native Ireland.
The actress’ latest film, The Way Back is due in limited release on December 29th (see the trailer here.)
