Mix one-part beloved children’s author’s birthday, two-parts rumored Hollywood A-list couple and add a dash of Disney magic – and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a box office smash.

Enter Pixar’s latest creation, The Lorax, which manhandled its competition during the film’s opening weekend – raking in over $70 million in ticket sales, making it the highest debuting film of 2012.

Yeah, we know it’s only March 5th, but STILL!

The film, which featured the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White and Danny DeVito to name a few, beat out teen-thriller Project X , Roselyn Sanchez‘s Act of Valor,  Ryan Reynolds-Denzel Washington thriller Safe House Tyler Perry‘s Good Deeds.

It may just be us, but we’d rather watch the real Ryan Reynolds than an animated Zac Efron any day…

Okay, sorry – that was inexcusable, but it is actually kind of true…

According to Zac Efron, his Lorax costar, Taylor Swift, recently taught him how to play guitar during downtime while working on voiceovers for their latest film endeavor.

We were all running around doing different interviews [for The Lorax] but I caught her for five minutes and told her my resolution was to learn how to play guitar… She was like, ‘Well I can play guitar.’ So, you know, then she can teach me. It was great!

The actor continued to gush about his country music-playing guitar teacher adding,

She’s just lovely — so sweet… Everything that just comes across in her music — the warmth, her personality, her charm — is just who she is.

But you guys still aren’t dating right?  Right, okay…

No, it’s not her Lorax costar Zac Efron…

Country music sweetheart Taylor Swift has asked Kevin McGuire, an 18-year-old high school football player from New Jersey suffering from leukemia, to be her date to the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.

According to reports, McGuire had originally asked Swift to be his date to senior prom, but when Tay-Tay couldn’t attend, she decided to make it up to him by posting this little love note on her official Facebook page.

Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up.. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor.

Not a bad consolation prize, eh Kev?

Rumored sweethearts Zac Efron and Taylor Swift are set to make an exclusive appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, to chat about their upcoming animated film The Lorax and about how they are adjusting to life as a Hollywood A-list couple.

Yeah, yeah – we know they’re not really together, but can you image if these two actually hooked up?  I think the celebrity vortex would like collapse on itself or something.

Even though Zac and Tay-Tay aren’t an item (yet), they both took Ellen’s good natured ribbing well and joked around about how they fell in love while recording voiceovers for their animated characters.

Ellen: Since you’re a couple you will tell me…

Taylor: We are not a couple. He’s awesome, we are not a couple though. You hear people get together when they’re shooting movies, co-stars. But not like animated co-stars.  You know what I’m saying.

Zac: Yeah (laughing)

Taylor: Oh my god, as we were recording out voiceovers on separate coasts we really connected.

Ellen: Alright we’ll talk about the fact that you’re a couple later..

Love it.

Although the two musically inclined stars claim to not spend much time together outside of work, they apparently made time to compose a little ditty for the reigning queen of daytime talk.  Take a look at what Zac and Taylor came up with below…

During Sunday night’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards country music sweetheart Taylor Swift took the stage to redeem herself after her lackluster performance with Stevie Nicks two years ago which critics, (like the always brutally honest Bob Lefsetz) called “career ruining”.

Now, everyone knows that Taylor Swift can’t sing… Taylor’s too young and dumb to understand the mistake she made. And those surrounding her are addicted to cash and are afraid to tell her no. But last night Taylor Swift SHOULD have auto-tuned. To save her career.

But this year, Swift appeared to be singing a different tune (literally!) when she performed a rendition of her chart-topping hit “Mean”.  The 22-year-old looked  gorgeous in a prairie-inspired frock, accompanied by a chorus of bluegrass-themed musicians and, quite frankly, performed her song beautifully.

Along with her redeeming performance, the country diva took home two Grammys for “Best Country Solo Performance” and “Best Country Song”.

Take that critics!

Oh thank goodness…

Not that we don’t love us some Taylor Swift, but casting her as Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables just didn’t seem natural.  Or like a good idea.  At all.

While the 22-year-old was understandably bummed by the announcement that she won’t be gracing the silver screen anytime soon (besides lending her voice to a character in The Lorax) we’re sure her three ACM nominations (and grabbing a quick grande something-or-other) more than made up for it.

Don’t worry TSweezy, they have to make a Valentine’s Day: Part II sometime don’t they?  Oh wait, they already did, but they called it something weird like New Year’s Eve…

Um, is anyone surprised?  Our girl Taylor Swift isn’t exactly known for taking breakups well.  Right Joe Jonas and John Mayer (Seriously John?  She was like half your age.  Poor form.)

According to insiders, Swift is still heartbroken over her failed relationship of three months to actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

She’s haunted by that relationship…  [the relationship] totally screwed with her mind.

Sources also confirm that the ACM nominated songstress vented her frustrations over the 31-year-old by penning some feisty tunes about him for her forthcoming album.

It may just be me, but if I was a single gal having dinner with Zac Efron every other week, I would’ve forgotten about ol’ Jake What’s-his-face a looooong time ago.

Country music sweetheart Taylor Swift is everywhere lately –  getting cozy with Hollywood hottie Zac Efron, hanging out with gal pal Selena Gomez and her beau Justin Bieber and now strutting her stuff on the 2012 Sundance Film Festival red carpets.

The blonde beauty showed up at the premiere of the film “Ethel” last night sporting a knee-length, ecru-colored mohair “Chrysalis” cocoon coat (got that?) by Kymerah, an emerald green, cable knit Ralph Lauren Black Label cashmere pullover and herringbone boots by Schuler & Sons for Anthropologie  - which were absolutely to. die. for.

Despite the overwhelming level of success she’s been afforded over the last several years, the 22-year-old says she is always thinking about what her next step should be,

I fret about the future. What my next move should be. What the move after that should be. How I am going to sustain this. How do I evolve. I get so ahead of myself. I’m like, ‘What am I going to be doing at 30?’ But there’s no way to know that! So it’s this endless mind-boggling equation that you’ll never figure out. I overanalyze myself into being a big bag of worries.

Oh T-Sweezy, just sit back and enjoy the moment – and those boots, enjoy those boots…

Man, Zac Efron sure gets around!  One minutes he’s rumored to be dating Emma Roberts, then the next thing you know, he’s hooking up with Rumer Willis and now we hear he’s arm-in-arm with T-Sweezy (that’s Taylor Swift for those of you just joining us) – who’s next?  Meryl Streep?

Obviously not. She’s old.  That’s gross.

Moving on – the 24-year-old was spotted with country music sweetheart, Taylor Swift, at the L.A. eatery Place on January 6th.

Can we pause here for a moment?  If I could have one wish for Hollywood, it would be that someone could open up a restaurant with a normal, non-pretentious name.  Place?  Really?  We’re going to eat at Place?  What’s next, Over There?  Or how about, Here?  You’re a restaurant.  You serve food on tiny plates with weird sauces.  Get over yourselves.

According to sources, the pair, who arrived together were,

…Deep in conversation and very giggly… They seemed very friendly.

However, other insiders speculate that the dinner wasn’t romantic at all and was, in fact, strictly business,

They were in L.A. doing press stuff together [for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax… And after they were done, they decided to grab dinner.

Snoozeville!  Let’s all just pretend that they are dating – that’s way more fun!

BFFs Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez finally got to log some serious hang time hours when the two hooked up to hang with pals earlier this week. According to sources, the gals gabbed, gossiped and wrote in their dream journals until the wee hours of the morning.

Okay, that part I made up, but it does sort of seem like something they’d do.

The gal pals’ bond seems to be stronger than ever, despite the fact that Selena recently took to her Twitter to announce that she has a new BBF – her puppy Baylor!
