The cast, writers and producers of CW’s breakout hit show, The Vampire Diaries appeared Saturday night at the Paley Festival in Los Angeles. The annual event gives both press and fans a chance to interact with the stars and the creative forces behind their favorite shows. TVD stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev were joined by writers and producers Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Bob Levy. Here’s what we’ve learned:

• The audience got to view the March 25th episode ‘A Few Good Men’ and (I won’t spoil it for you) but you will find out who Elena’s biological mom is.
• Williamson (who brought us TV’s Dawson’s Creek and the Scream movies) said he was initially worried when he began reading the books - that they were too Twilight-ish. At Plec’s urging, he kept reading and realized how different they were and hopped on board.
• Williamson loves loves loves cliffhangers and the season ending will have between 7 to 9 loose ends to keep viewers guessing!
• The fog has gone away (THANK YOU!) and no more actors changing to animals.

Good stuff coming up. Looking forward to the new episodes returning March 25th.

Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz hit Cosmo Magazine’s radar as a Fun Fearless Male for their February issue and the actor stopped by to party with the other guys Monday night in NYC. While Breaking Dawn is rumored to start filming this fall (and will be split into two films - just like the Harry Potter series finale) the Emmett Cullen actor isn’t resting on his vampire laurels. The actor is costarring with another Twi alum, Ashley Greene in Warrior and the latest Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. Oh yeah, and there are those hot hot hot seriously sexy Calvin Klein underwear ads…

While waiting for The Vampire Diaries to return with new episodes (March 25th), producer Julie Plec is serving up a slice of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) & Elena (Nina Dobrev) heaven for fans who are Team Damon - from EW’s Ask Ausiello:

Question: I am dying here without Vampire Diaries! Please give us some scoop on the Damon-Elena relationship because I am loving it! —Ash
Ausiello: Then prepare to love this season’s final strong of episodes, which exec producer Julie Plec tells me will be heavily focused on the pair. “We’ll see Damon start to look at Elena as more than just his brother’s girlfriend or the doppelganger to the love of his life,” she reveals. “He’ll start to love and understand her as a human being, which is ironic because Damon could typically give a s–t about anything involving humanity. It’s some good stuff.”

The Vampire Diaries doesn’t return until March 25th with a new episode but until then, here are a couple of hints about what’s to come in the final few episodes of the season. E!Online’s Watch with Kristen has some dish (get the spoilers by clicking the link below.)

Mae in Atlanta: Please tell me some of the sexy Vampire Diaries stars are hooking up in real-life!
Not so, says Candice Accola (Caroline). “There’s so much heat going on onscreen—we’re all just a family,” Candice tells us with a laugh. “I wish there was some juice or some crazy things going down, but not really. We disgustingly all just get along, and no one’s dating.” So apparently all the drama is happening on the show? Hmph!

The Vampire Diaries returns tonight with episode 14 ‘Fool Me Once’ and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is not in the forgiving mood. Last weeks ‘Children Of The Damned’ saw Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) grave robbing the Salvatore brother’s father for answers and Anna (Malese Jow) finally got into the Gilbert’s house when Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) invited her in. Elena was kidnapped by Anna and Stefan needs Damon’s help - who isn’t having any of it since Stefan wasn’t going to share what he discovered in their father’s tomb.

The Vampire Diaries will go on a six week hiatus (again!) until March 25th when new episodes will run out the season in May.

After watching The Vampire Diaries ‘Unpleasantville’ last night, I realized that Mystic Falls is the US headquarters of ‘Vampires-R-Us’ and there is some kind of super villain convention going on for the Free Katherine society - let’s make t-shirts! Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is getting stalked by Anna (Malese Jow) who also happens to be a vampire. Poor Jeremy. She only wants him for one thing: the Gilbert family diary which contains the answers to releasing Katherine from her tomb prison. Fortunately, Jeremy gave the old journal with written instructions (why would you write that down??) to his history teacher (and vampire hunter/hater) Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis.)

Vampire love isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and by the looks of the crowd that turned out to the Hot Topic store, the human cast members of The Vampire Diaries were welcomed to the Town Center Mall in Kennesaw, Georgia. On hand: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Katerina Graham, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Sara Canning, Matt Davis, Michael Trevino, and Steven R. McQueen were signing autographs and answering fan questions on Saturday afternoon. From the Q&A:

When one fan asked her [Nina Dobrev] who was a better kisser between Stefan and Ian [Damon], she responded as any lady would, “I’m a girl who never kisses and tells.” The competition between Ian’s and Paul Wesley’s fans was almost as intense as Team Edward vs. Team Jacob, but the boys were able to joke about it. Paul said, “Well, Damon’s crazy, and Damon drives Stefan crazy.” To end the quarrel Nina told the crowd she would pick “Defan” (a mixture of Damon and Stefan) their “other” brother over the two vampires to date.

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning are in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival promoting their other film together The Runaways. The two teen costars popped in to a Joan Jett and the Blackhearts concert at Harry O’s on Sunday January 24th and appeared briefly onstage with Jett and former Runaways bandmate, Cheri Currie.

Fanning is portraying Currie in the upcoming movie and Stewart will be seen as Jett in the pic that chronicles the rise of the all teenage girl band of the seventies.

The flick opens Friday March 19th and will be talked about just for the kissing scene between Stewart and Fanning.

The Vampire Diaries is heating up after it’s long winter nap and just in time for the new episodes, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder have scored the cover of Nylon Magazine for February. Here is an excerpt:

On the similarities between Twilight, True Blood, and Vampire Diaries: “When the show first started… you automatically thought Twilight.  But once you continue, there’s a whole other side of it that goes a lot deeper… It’s about letting everyone know that we’re different but we all respect each other.” –Nina Dobrev

On the sudden success of the show: ““Do I think the show would be successful as it is, if it weren’t for all that? No.” –Paul Wesley

Hey Ian, is there any similarity between LOST and Vampire Diaries? “[My character] is gonna be the coolest character on television. There was no doubt about it. It reminded me of Sawyer, Josh Holloway’s character on LOST. He was always the character I secretly wished I could play.”

The show is hot hot hot and after this past week’s return with “Bloodlines” and all the reveals - the show is just getting better. Somerhalder also returns to ABC’s final season of LOST as Boone Carlyle on February 2nd. Check out TVD latest episode, “Unpleasantville” on Thursday January 28th at 8pm EST.

Twilight star Ashley Greene was on the verge of heading back to Florida until she landed the Alice Cullen role and her life has changed dramatically. Her New Moon costar Michael Sheen (Aro Volturri) quizzed her for Interview Magazine on what it’s like to be part of this huge franchise:

SHEEN: Now there’s so much more to this whole Twilight thing than just the films, isn’t there? There’s everything that goes with it—it’s a huge sort of phenomenon. What’s it like being right at the epicenter of that whole thing?

GREENE: [sighs] It’s a really hard thing to wrap your head around. I was working at a restaurant, I booked the role in Twilight, put in my two weeks’ notice, got fitted, flew to Portland, filmed, and then it started getting hype. That helped me get my foot into certain doors before the movie even came out. I did four independent films during the break between Twilight [2008] and New Moon. I haven’t even really had time to sit back and process it all. But when you do finally sit back and think about it, it’s incredible.

The actress has lots of movies coming up: Skateland will show at the Sundance Film Festival in January and she has just found her leading man, Sebastian Stan, for the upcoming flick Apparition. Check out the rest of the interview - Sheen is quite funny with his questions.

Melinda Clarke will join The Vampire Diaries and has been cast as Matt and Vicki’s absentee mother, Kelly Donovan. The actress will appear for at least 3 episodes starting in March.

Also contrary to what the imdb episode recap page said (it has been removed) regarding the upcoming January 21st ep - Elena will NOT transition to a vampire.

Cosmopolitan magazine has named Kellan Lutz from The Twilight Saga and Paul Wesley of The Vampire Diaries as two Fun Fearless Males in it’s February issue. Here is an excerpt from Paul’s Q & A:

Have you done anything fearless lately?

“There was a stunt on Vampire Diaries that had me jumping off a building. I said no to a stunt double because I know my fear of heights is all mental. So I did a free fall for 60 feet with a harness that eased me into the landing.”
